Cambridge United 0 - 2 Derby County

CAMBRIDGE UNITED v DERBY COUNTY.............. League 1 # 10

Abbey Stadium Saturday 1st October 2022

Are we back on the treadmill of regular matches? No deaths to postpone them? No international breaks?

So, in true fashion the 'Derby Way' sees us embark the next part of the season with yet another new manager. But hey, fans seem quite reconciled to it as doesn't really matter what we think or want. Good luck Paul Warne.

Nothing has really happened in the wider world of any interest apart from a funeral, a budget, a new PM, and the Oxford comma.

Derby go into this game sort of cautiously optimistic in a roundabout sort of way. It will be interesting to see what changes Warne brings about - cannot see much changing quickly by tomorrow.

Away fans sell out again for the relatively short trip to Ang's backyard whereby he has managed to wangle a ticket and will be at the Cambridge ''Spoons about 10.15am.

Team news:- Wildsmith (GK), Hourihane, Chester, Cashin, Barkhuizen, Bird, Collins, Mendez-Laing, Dobbin, Davies (C), Knight

Subs:- Loach (GK), Stearman, Forsyth, Roberts, Thompson, Osula, Sibley

BTW, Saturday is Derby Countyโ€™s 5002nd game and believe it or not, we are only the 4th team to ever achieved this milestone

Agreed lads, not sure if you follow the live edition of it on Facebook VC, that’s were I read the negative comments about him but he certainly knows his onions but the downside for most seems to be that Barry from burton isn’t getting on the phone-in with his drool boring analysis of the game ๐Ÿฅฑ๐Ÿซฃ

How many more managers will bite the dust before the month is out? If Forest (or Leicester ) lose today then Cooper (or Rogers) is likely to be chopped.

Catching up!

Great analysis Ang. That was a good read.

I remember when Italian football chairmen were incredibly trigger happy in the 90s and felt grateful the English leagues were a lot more patient. Given the shift in money from Serie A to the Premier League and below it definitely is a result business with little regard (by most chairmen) to build a team slowly, step by step with the right players, mentality, characters etc.....this is why I admire Brighton and Brentford's approach so much.

Unless Rooney turns it around very quickly in the US I think his managerial status will be tarnished and he'll probably end up bouncing from country to country managing in countries like Holland, Belgium or possibly Australia.

Darren Robinson has been a great addition to Radio Derby and a fascinating listen. I do sometimes feel he does love the sound of his own voice. I'm surprised Adam Bolder isn't getting the love given he's 'one of our own' - I quite like when he's on and enjoying listening to him (until squad goals kicks in!) Palmer is very knowledgeable but a hard listen.

Cheers, Desi
I like Bolder, but Steele....not so much.

On the subject of East Midlands sackings, I can see Cooper getting the chop and Forest attempt to get someone more high profile in. (if only it's Billy Davies)

Leicester will probably end up holding on to Rodgers until post Xmas and then opt to sack him if results are still poor. Their financial situation sounds like they don't want to pay out the severance pay required otherwise he'd have got the bullet already.
