Murmurings in the press this week that he's waiting for a new contract to be offered and is keen to extend his stay, with his current deal set to expire in the summer (although United have a one year extension they can trigger).
Currently playing out of his skin for Portugal, and has probably been one of ETH's best performers so far this season. He's certainly made himself first choice at RB.
And he's one of the lowest earners in the first team squad (reportedly on around £25k per week).
For me, now would be a good time for the club to be making him an offer, for several reasons:
Firstly, if he plays as he has done so far this season for the rest of the campaign, his wage demands are likely to be significantly higher come the summer. He'll also be only a year away at that point (assuming the extension is triggered) from free agency and a juicy signing on bonus.
Secondly, we have the WC coming up. If he goes as expected, and he gets game time, given how he's playing for Santos, again, we're going to see his wage demands rocket. There's obviously no bigger shop window than a WC, and inevitable interest coming from other clubs isn't going to help in that regard either.
Thirdly, if he can be tied up earlier *on a sensible wage*, even if ETH wants a new first choice RB in the summer, it won't hurt having him in the squad as competition, a different option, and/or cover. United should really be aiming for two competitive players in every position.
Finally, if next summer sees a bunch of action for the transfer team (which you'd expect again), having a performing Dalot locked down would mean that *if necessary* attention and funds could be focused elsewhere (striker, midfield, goalkeeper...) and there'd be one less distraction for the transfer and contracts team.
No brainer for me. He suits Hagball, he seems very happy and settled, he's surrounded by speakers of his native language. Get in there now, make him a fair and sensible offer for the next four years, and get one job (and potential future problem) crossed off the list.
New contract for Dalot?

How about you make a speculative application for the United DoF job, Rosso? At least so they have your CV on file.
Seems sensible to me. Looking forward to seeing the partnership with Antony grow.

Yeah, I’m hoping he’ll work well with Antony.
For Portugal, Santos uses Dalot inside quite a lot, and I think if ETH does the same, that’ll suit Antony down to the ground.

Is he likely to start for Portugal in the WC, he's started just 1 game for Portugal this year. Doesn't Cancelo play on the right for Portugal and will starts over him whenever he's available.

New deal. He's a good player, not great but you can't have great in every position. Not even City.

If the new deal is a wage that is acceptable for a squad place then fine, no issue as a back up long term.
I know Rosso has stated offering him a sensible offer which is fine, I just worry we give him (or any player) a new deal based on a handful of performances as well as too much making it impossible to move on if we need to.

Most improved player this season? Certainly at Utd I'd have thought.
Proper athlete and has the tools so if ETH can get a tune out of him you've a real asset there and will save Utd about £50m

Think people have gone a bit overboard with his performances, yes he's improved but lets wait and see, he's had about 4 good performances ffs.
I get the thinking behind giving him one now as he might want more by the end of the season but I'm still not convinced he's the solution for the RB spot so any rash decision will again leave us with a player we don't need.
I'll be stunned if Dalot has a 'great' WC and has clubs desperate to buy him as a result.

If we were talking about £200k per week, I’d be equally as concerned.
But that’d be part of the rationale for getting him signed up early, particularly if as reported he’s keen to extend.

Yeah, Cancelo is still first choice at RB.
If Dalot keeps playing as well as he is though, it’s gonna leave Santos with a headache.
He’d already be better off playing Cancelo in CM with Neves, IMO. He’s a level above William Carvalho or facking Danilo.

I concur. Even if we were to sign a right back in the summer Dalot would be easily second choice at worst and would still play a lot of football.
