I know it's the World Cup, come on

England.
But I'm getting excited about United, I think we are back.
I'm thinking top 4 is possible, and a good signing in the summer gets us challenging.
The reason I think so is ETH. He's shown he is in charge, and Ronaldo had to go. He's getting the players on his side and giving them believe.
They now know what they are supposed to do, and thank the lord, nobody can walk through us now.
He could be, if not our Pep, he could be our Klopp.
Allez United.

I think there's an interpretation element here. This isn't Rio saying "we're back" after a frankly ridiculously lucky win against PSG.

It's a United fan who's seen a lot of false dawns (and this could may well be one too) who sees shoots of recovery under a manager whom we pretty much universally believe in and over time can hopefully get us back to the top.

Given the shambles we've been for the last 10 years and having survived the CR7 show I think top 4 with a team all playing for ETH would be a good season and a sign that we may well be back in terms of actually having a team we believe in and hopefully can dream of much bigger highs from.

That belief should be a bare mimimum, but there have been plenty of occasions over the last decade where watching us has felt like anything but cause for optimism.

That belief (and the hopeful end of the Glazer reign of terror in the not too distant future) is enough to feel that we may well be back. It doesn't need to be measured by trophies (though they definitely help) but just a feeling of progression and a united faith in the direction the club is heading.

Even without Ronaldo you still had that brain fart game at Villa. It’s his first season, I think you will remain inconsistent this season and finish 5th.

Chelsea look faaacked this year and no way Potter is fixing that in one window. Newcastle will have half decent sides park the bus at SJP seeing a point as a good result - breaking those sides down is often a steep learning curve.

I think top 4 is City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs in that order.

Ronaldo started in that game. I remember because Donny the friendly ghost also started, so we basically started with 9 that day. I knew we were beaten before kick-off (as the live thread that day will show).

We may well not finish top 4 but we are undisputedly better without him

It’s city and arsenal then after that it’s anyones guess for the other two spots if you ask me

I wouldn’t want to make any predictions til we see the state of squads with returning players from the World Cup

We are heavily reliant on Kane to make top 4 and judging the World Cup he looks well off it aside from a few nice flicks and a couple of passes

He had his ankle heavily strapped after the USA game so fack knows how is coming back to us

I’d put United and Liverpool as 3 & 4 if I was pushed for an opinion right now ….ETH has United going in the right direction again and if they get a proper striker in that could seal top 4 for them

Not really thinking about the bread and butter PL whilst WC is on, plenty of time for that later.

Unfortunately you look good enough for top 4 this year striker or no striker. All your fans that wanted no part of Ronaldo were proven right. And the scary thing is ETH is just starting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we wont finish top 4 without a proper CF. Thats quite clear. Yes, we were right about Ronaldo and its been a painful lesson for many of the fanboys to learn. And I am quite excited that the new manager will finally start his tenure as the real man in charge, next month.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
City won back to back leagues without a CF but I get what you’re saying.

The Ronaldo fanboys will never admit they were wrong. Roy Keane being the biggest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
City are also a superior side to us........ They had/have players who can score goals all over the team.

I watched utd get outplayed by villa and then fulham in the league.

Still a long way to go. Good you are optimistic but I see nothing in performances that backs that optimism.

I think all United fans are optimistic to a greater or lesser degree. The manager is liked and thought good. There is definite signs of improvement, the new players are doing OK or very well. So yes, things are looking good for the future.
