If we got Big Sam first time

Where do you think we’d be in the table?

If we got him in after Nottingham Forest away. It would have been massively unpopular but I think we’d be safe, I know it’s only two games but game management and set up is miles ahead of Gracia and Marsch

In answer to OP: we’d be safe for another season in the Prem. That’s all I care about as we’re ferrucked now.

We battered most teams under Marsch, we just couldn't score goals. That's Orta's fault. Stuck with Bamford 1 season too long.

Disagree with this. Got a bit of a boost with gracia but he too was way over his head
Imho if we had Sam all year with the same players we'd be at worst 12th

“if” is such a big word!

yup, if my nan was a man i would not be here

Anyone can be a man or a woman these days, just because they feel like it. You shouldn't assume you're nan's identity.

Big Sam is a different level to Marsch or Gracia. I’ve said before, no way would I want him long term, but he’s failed in one job and that was taking that awful West Brom team a few years ago. Those wins under Gracia were just a manager bounce from having someone who didn’t play 2 right wingers and pin ball football.

Just the way they set up today and against City, I don’t see how we’d have been battered 5-1 by Palace, 4-1 by Bournemouth. The way the table is, we are going to be relegated by 1-3 points, it’s that tight. Literally one more win from somewhere (Forest away, Everton away, Leicester home) would have been enough.

We got fat Sam because we failed in every department over last 2 years, should have got the right man after Bielsa, but got it totally wrong and DOF bought wrong players too, but yeah if we got Sam instead of Gracia, maybe things would be different.

Off we go back to the championship anyway, got knows what we do manager wise, AR track record is appalling 90% of managers he’s had.

If Allardyce had kept picking Bamford there's a very good chance he would have ultimately made no difference.

Rasmus is the most surprisingly improved player under Big Sam and defensively I reckon we would have conceded no more than a couple in any game and I also reckon we'd have scored an extra goal per game after Marsch was sacked so not including the Skubala games in the words of the late great Jim Bowen.. this is what we could have won:

Southampton h 2-0
Chelsea a 1-1
Brighton h 3-2
Wolves a 5-2
Arsenal a 2-2
Forest h 3-1
Palace h 2-2
Liverpool h 2-2
Fulham a 2-2
Leicester h 3-1
Bournemouth a 2-2

Therefore we would have an extra 10 points and be sitting comfortably safe mid table with 41 points and a minus 2 gd... Oh if only!

We wouldn't have been pretty but we'd have been safe there or there abouts. Think we'd be 15th at best. Poor recruitment let us down, not Jesse, Javi or Sam.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, I disagree. Jesse and Javi DID let us down. The recruited players in the summer were all Marsch’s choice. Unfortunately the football they had played was a much lower level and nowhere near Premier League level and that’s where Orta failed. He couldn't see that they wouldn’t be good enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The idea that Marsch was the transition from Bielsa was 99% of the problem. Once that decision has been made the recruitment makes sense. With the exception of Roca who has never suited the system.

The recruitment of players looks horrendous because Marsch football is ridiculously bad. The players that work for it are horrific on the ball because they don’t need to be any better. So difficult for any manager to come in and square that circle.

Just to be clear I am not defending Orta’s recruitment of players even though I’m saying they were probably quite good for the manager.

Because the manager and philosophy was a joke. A disgrace. A horrific misjudgement.

nd that manager & philosophy was Orta’s choice.

What a post match interview from Big Sam. Honest, forthright, jargon-free and crystal clear. You could see how much this result hurt him. Say it quietly, but he is one of us.

^^^

God that's the truth. We were spun and then sold a
blatant lie by Orta. Marcelo and Marsch were nowhere
near a smooth tactical or style transition. Orta courted
Marsch for two years? Apparently. Mental decision.
On top of many, many mental recruitment decisions.
