tbf, he could be a very good player at the right club, with the right CB pairing. He rarely puts a foot wrong for England and seems to play very well with Stones.

I don't see the massive fascination over Rice personally. Anyone who spends £90-100m on him is massively overpaying. He's a good player but he's not a great one.

If West Ham get £100m for Rice, anybody they try and buy will be at a premium, a bit like when Liverpool paid £35m for Carroll.

To West Ham he is more than a player of X ability.

He is available every week. He is the captain. The fans favourite. He is their player in the England team.

There are very few English players good enough to play in Top 4 sides, each of which need 8 homegrown players registered in their squad.

You pay a premium for a good reason.
