VAR

Actually had a good weekend. Some decisions took ages but I'd rather that than they get them wrong.

Overall though it did really well.

- Utd goal correctly ruled out
- Villa goal correctly ruled out

There were a couple more which I can't remember off the top of my head.

They've had an absolutely shocking start but hopefully they're sorting it out.

Not sure how I feel about the masses of extra time yet. I hate time wasting at the start of games and whilst drawing though, it's anti football. Not surecon that one yet.

the one where the defender won the ball twice? that was very harsh, but atleast it was the refs decision, VAR sent him to the screen he stuck with his original decision and gave the pen didnt he?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah credit due for the ref to sticking to his original (wrong) decision 😅
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Credit to VAR for sending him to the monitor for it. They did their part, ref got it wrong imo twuce 😂 but least it wasnt VAR refusing to send him to the monitor... of which var would get the blame for the entire thing...

Don't worry, there is always a cheat in VAR to cheat Arsenal.
Offside from an Everton players ball

Fack my life

They got tht spot on, followed the rules.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No they didn't , Beto made a deliberate play of the ball as outlined in law 11 and clarified by IFAB in their examples.

He deliberately went to block the pass and deliberately kicked it down the pitch to Eddie, this nonsense of "control" that Sky were talking about was completely made up.

I'd have thought everyone can see that but not InBefore apparently

Sky chuck out something and the sheeeeeep follow.

It bounced off his thigh, no way was it deliberate.

Wasn't his thigh, he kicked it.

It was 100% deliberate mate, the only debate is over this nonsense of control which makes it debatable.

The IFAB are messing about with stuff like this when our PL refs can't even do the basics right.

Offside was brought in to stop goal hanging but now it's devolved into being the favourite subject of pendants

This is from IFAB, slightly different in that it is about definition of a "save". However, the key components of "deliberately" playing the ball are in there:

An attacking player (Team A) in an offside position receives the ball from a defending player (Team B) who made a clear movement towards the ball and tried to intercept a pass that could lead to a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Is the defender’s action considered a ‘deliberate save’ for offside?
No, because a ‘save’ is only when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal. The referee allows play to continue as the attacking player (Team A) is not considered to have gained an advantage as the defender (Team B) deliberately played the ball.

Like in this example Beto made a clear movement towards the ball and tried (successfully) to intercept the pass. Beto anticipated the pass, moved between the passer and the target, and when the pass was badly hit Beto moved his leg at the ball in a kicking motion.

By law 11 it was a deliberate action.

If you watch you see that after playing the ball Beto immediately makes a run for a through ball, as he believed he had knocked the ball to Doucoure and felt he had started an attack.
