This is not sarcasm.

How do so many of you know so much.
I grew up in an ordinary family, went to grammar school, got a few o levels. I read two broadsheets a day, have visited lots of countries.
I consider myself medium in just about every way, mister average.

A subject like Israel Hammas as an example ,comes up and immediately my views are lacking knowledge, people know about the history the people, the treatise.
How do you do it? Google it ?
I read a biography or autobiography about Golda Meir donkeys years ago, read the papers during the six day war ,worked for a Jewish family but hold myself ignorant.
So how do some know so much, uni?

I’ve had it a few times Darren where I feel like I’ve been arguing with google than an individual on here, they’re that entrenched in their position that it’s just them seeking as much validation as they can before inevitably just going silent as they realise they’re wrong! Spent a lot of time thinking about why they even start the discussion in the first place, but that’s got a complex answer to it too.

Think the best thing to do on sites like this is to generate those connections where you know it’s not going to go down that route and have conversations with people where both you and they can feel comfortable with saying either “I have no idea” or the even more rare “yes you’re right and I’m wrong”.

We’re all guilty of falling into the trap of arguing with those not like that at all time to time too though, admittedly!

Yeah, the tiiiit for tat can be fun sometimes.

I agree in general, though I do think it’s a good thing when some people may get drawn in, however, as I’ve often picked things up later in articles I’ve not engaged with that have been extremely informative. So whilst it may often be a waste of time trying to inform certain people, it can be useful in general for people on the site that are willing to take in things that others have said. There’s some very good posters on here that have taught me an awful lot with some insightful posts over the years.

Yep that is the one reason it’s worth it sometimes. The counter to it is I’ve seen some suckered in by something just by seeing it on here too so it again goes back to the individual and how they consume and analyse information themselves.

I'm always googling stuff I read on this site, mostly on political threads. A sort of verification process for someone stating a 'fact' that you may dispute.

Good example is Slaughterhouse 5. I'd heard of the book but I never knew it was set in Dresden - I just assumed it was a sci-fi novel.

To answer the OP. I reckon many are taught these things at the local Mosque or by Family elders / community leaders.
