NEW: Manchester United are considering alternatives to Erik Ten Hag, who is thought to be “on thin ice" at the club.

The club is understood to view Rúben Amorim and Zinédine Zidane, as potential replacements to Ten Hag.

The situation is hugely complicated by the uncertainty over ownership.

Rinse and fooooking repeat with this club. My heart can’t take this anymore lads.

Things at the club really aren’t as bad as are being made out. Yes the glazers absolutely suck but if another manager had come in and spent £400 million on good players rather than the ones Ten Hag picked we’d surely be doing a lot better and the heat would be off the manager.

This whole narrative of ‘nothing is ever gonna change’ is tiresome because even under a limited manager like Ole we did have periods of calm and positivity. Imagine we had the holy grail of a good manager who buys good players? They do exist.

Let’s put it this way. If Ten Hag had spent that £400 million on Rice, Maddison, Moussa Diaby, Van De Ven, Watkins and Trippier I’m fairly certain we wouldn’t have been on such a horrific run of results.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely no guarantee those players would have worked out. Also, Eth does not negotiate transfers, 400m spent courtesy of Murtough and co.

Apart from Antony I would say the rest have been "excellent" to "need time to settle". Red Russian has listed all of Eth's signings in a separate thread so I won't repeat it here.

It's a squad game so I would say 9 players recruited with desire for transformative change within the team is insufficient, we still need a CB, 2 FBs, 2 CMs, 2 wide players and another CF. You can't address all in 18 months.

Eth has not covered himself in glory but I suspect he's realised the task ahead to deliver what he wants to deliver is mammoth, he may have overestimated the work required. But like a few here have mentioned rather than accepting the challenge from Eth and work harder the players are, allegedly, leaking stories from the dressing in an attempt to get Eth (and yet another manager) sacked to start again. The neverending cycle continues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Or it could just be as simple as what he isn’t that great a manager and is incapable of doing the most basic thing any manager can do which is getting his tactics across to the players. We can create a narrative where our players are the bad guys and are evil and just want to be lazy etc. and of course that may well be true. Or maybe they’re just hungry to succeed but just don’t relate to whatever demands the manager wants and just want someone to come in who can bring what the squad needs.

Ten Hag came in as a disciplinarian and perhaps that isn’t the approach these guys need which is why I’m a bit less ‘Conte in’ as I was before. Perhaps they need an Ange style arm around the shoulders type guy who can motivate them whilst not getting on the wrong side of the players

I think there needs to be a special coach badge a manager needs before taking the Utd job.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you have in mind?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He will need to learn coping mechanisms for working in a toxic environment. Plus he will need to learn to become a manager and DoF rolled into one.
-------------------------
---------------------------------------------

Every club has different culture, you can't replicate this. As for coping with toxic culture, you don't, to survive you remove the source of toxicity using a surgical approach. It's either you or the source (s) of toxicity survives. I so wish Ole named and shamed the players who were responsible for his eventual downfall, we can all speculate and I would bet we would be fairly accurate with educated guesses!

Unless you weed out toxic players no matter who you bring in as manager eventually player power wins. The club, manager, players. It should be in that order.

The contracts some of them have is a big cause of that and will take a few years to sort out, assuming we want to sort it out.

Yeah, jealousy and greed plays a big part. When you as players are not too fussed about trophies the next best thing is money. Utd throw money around like confetti, we as a club are responsible for setting the wrong tone. Wastefulness, greed breeds the toxic culture we have because we only attract players of a certain kind. Winners go to clubs capable of challenging, not Utd.

I think the time for wedding them out is past, I would genuinely have a complete clear out, even if it meant no signings and spending our money on paying off contracts, and relaying on a mixture of those that are left and young players. Even tho EtH has spent a lot a money he is still largely dealing with a squad of players who have been here for a while. Any player who is either not good enough or is seen as a problem should just be written off and a complete reset either with or without EtH. Drastic and never going to happen but it’s what I think is needed. Then when this is done we need to implement a strict wage policy with performance related bonus that actually matter.

No, you're right. Complete clearcut has been suggested but laughed off by some here.

It really is a mess, everything in place for high failure rate. All stems from the ownership who are not fussed about footy as long as the club generates money, which despite the mess carries on generating record revenues. The commercial arm is a double edged sword and one of the reasons why the Glazers have lingered and ruined the football operation for so long.

If you have serious owners with football at the heart, this message percolates down to every level. The commercial aspect would take care of itself, in fact with on field success the revenue would have been even more. The commercial arm has succeeded with no fresh investment from the ownership.

Zizou woudlnt touch us with a bargepole, in fact I’m not sure what decent manager would at this moment in time?

This is why I wanted the Qataris to buy the club so we get rid of the owners and start afresh.
