David Pegg, another Munich victim.

When I went with aforementioned neighbour we often had a place halfway between the goal and centre line. So often David was right in front of me.
At the age I was then ( 7 until 12 ) the action right Infront of me is what I remember best.
He was a good dribbler, hurrah, quickish, and scored a few goals.
He was a victim of the crash, and not rembered so much today. A shame because he was talented, and a nice boy.
Lightweight, a good crosser, and another Tyke I think.
Another in his early twenties, I'm not religious, but God has a lot to answer for.

So was he a regular first teaser then, or rotated?
But you right, about how he’s not mentioned much.
I can’t remember my dad talking about him.

He would’ve been very young himself, but UTD had already made a name for themselves. He was thousands of miles away in Mauritius, but spoke of the shock when it happened.

He was a regular until, well I don't know really, a few games before Munich, then Albert Scanlon took his place, more on him another day.
But David played a lot of games for us, he was a winger, not sure if he was capped, probably not, Tom Finney played the same position, and he was better.

Read his wiki page.

As I've said on previous posts, I don't read up on them, I try to give my opinion of them as they were then, alive in front of me. Wiki will show facts, hopefully, I'm just trying to give my impression.

Oh, OK. It talks about Finney which is quite interesting. I was going to ask if you were aware at the time that Pegg was destined for what seemed a great future with England?

No I didn't know, in fact in my ignorance I preferred Albert Scanlon.
I saw both Finney and Mathews play and thought Finney better. Though of course it was only based on a couple of games.
Mates of mine had a pub just outside Preston twenty years ago and Tom used to come in for his lunch.

Incidentally Pegg was very thin, his style was like Giggs imo.

Just wondering ‘52.. I guess Old Trafford was still a fairly new stadium.. what was the capacity when you were going? was it totally rebuilt from the ground up? and was the pitch bigger than today?

I can't answe all your questions Stringer. But I'll do my best.
It was old, nearly all standard, the scoreboard end had no roof. Stretty was the loudest then as now if you booked a seat you got it cheaper if a pillar was in the way. If it rained those near the front got wet.
The first new cantilever stand would be early 60s. I thing it replaced the popular stand.
The crowds were around 45,000 then.
Sorry don't know about the pitch size.

Thanks ‘52
Long ago I read, and must’ve forgotten, but I thought cos OT got destroyed in the war, they totally rebuilt the stadium. Well I assumed that.. maybe it was partially destroyed.
