I’m a fan of DF and I’m not in the camp that says he needs to go (I actually read one of our posters saying he needs to be sacked in Earl’s MDT yesterday, with another poster saying if we lose to Brum, DF must go).
However, I am concerned that DF is a fair-weather manager. When things are going well, he’s flying and decisions are easy. During a storm, he struggles to right the ship as-it-were.
For me, he’s still got enough time to show that he can get us out of this mini-slump (1 win in 5) but he’s got to deal with:
- no back-up keeper to Mes.
- playing a RB at LB (both in Spence and Byram).
- what is Firpo’s role at the club? (When he eventually returns from injuries).
- Archie needs to play in midfield now.
- Gruev needs to be put on the next train out of here.
- play Piroe as CF which is presumably why we bought him as a CF.
- get rid of dis-interested Gnonto.
- Paddy’s finished. Take a hit and get rid.
- clear out Poveda.
- use Gnonto/Paddy/Poveda space/money for 1 or 2 incomings in Jan.
DF has got time to show that he’s capable of managing in difficult times … before that time runs out.
DF needs to show his mettle

Piroe is an enigma, but that's what we have turned him into. Farke wants to see more of his overall game. I just want to see his goals. Nine goals in 25 games for a one goal in two games striker, with a lot more possession in the box than Swansea, is desperately poor.

I think if you look at Joel Piroe's 45 goals for Swansea at least 30 of those look like they were scored by an out an out centre forward so why Farke tries to square peg him and absolutely diminish his natural goal scoring ability leads me to only one conclusion... Farke's a Man U fan!

Thanks for the link! Good with both feet, doesn’t look like he’s an aerial threat. Agree needs to be up top, it’s obviously not working when he’s almost anonymous 2 out of every 3 games.

Fickle crowd aren't we, a few weeks ago people are lauding him for the positive influence he is having on team spirit etc, a few bad results and suddenly nobody rates him.

Just watched it.
Most of goals are where isnt the up top striker.
Infact alot like what he’s done at Leeds.
Or have I watched a different video 🤷🏻♂️

He scored 37 goals inside the 18 yard box including 3 penalties and 8 goals outside the 18 yard box. He was clearly up in play and a constant threat and always looked liked scoring for fun whether he was technically a out and out striker or not or playing with a partner he wasn't getting in his team mates way and looking isolated lost and uncomfortable. In that video he looked an excellent goal scorer which he hasn't looked the same at Leeds playing behind Rutter.

Yeah excatly how he plays at leeds.
Infact if you did a video of his goals at Leeds, it would be a mirror image.
Making runs and coming late into box.
Honestly I must be watching a different Video 🤷🏻♂️

Just watched Fulham Arsenal Game.
And to be honest, its re enforced my view on Piroe.
Eddie is a great finisher, but his all round game, just isnt good enough, just kills the team.
It looks like I am in Minority of one, so not arrogant enough to think am 100% right.
But happy with my logic, and what I have seem from Piroe so far, that I can see why both Farke and Martin, didnt think he was a pure number 9.
Have a great on everyone and on to a victory tomorrow

I'm not too bothered if Piroe isn't a pure or proper number 9, what concerns me is his body language lately is of someone who is not happy about something which under Martin he looked a different and better player which if that was as a 10 then Farke isn't getting the same results playing him in the same position, so is Martin a better manager?
If it's not Farke's fault in his ability to see what mix of front line players would get the best out of Piroe then is it Piroe's form has just fallen off a cliff? or is the pressure too much at Leeds?
I sincerely hope DF can solve this Piroe enigma because that video if nothing else shows what an excellent goal poacher he was at Swansea.
Anyway if we start to see the goals going in as regularly as they did for him the last couple of seasons then none of us will care if he's a 10 or a 7 or whatever, I mean Salah's not a 9 and he's regularly Liverpool's top scorer.
Finally A Happy New Year to everyone and let's hope the
lads can get off to a convincing goal a plenty performance against Birmingham.

To be honest the way I look at it is.
We need to play a 9 and a 10.
Our two first choice options for those positions are Rutter and Piroe.
So out of the two possible positions we can play either one in it.
Therefore out of the four possible options (Piroe at 9, Piroe at 10 and Rutter at 9 or Rutter at 10 you start by picking the best one, which for me has to be Rutter at 10.
I think the weight of his passes, his footwork and his ability to take people on are more suited to be further back where he can leave people for dead and open space for the forward 3.
That leaves Piroe as the option at 9.
