Getting to know your favourite Pink Floyd album

Dark Side for me - flawless in every way. The fact that it is still being discussed and revered 50 years after it was recorded speaks volumes. Even the individual tracks are crafted to merge perfectly.

Their best single track IMO is Comfortably Numb from The Wall, but Shine On runs it close and there are also a few great tracks on The Division Bell.

Late to the discussion but DSOTM obviously the greatest album ever ,best single “time”always strikes a chord with me closely followed by comfortably numb lyrically and musically then wish you were here .I lost Floyd for a bit when Waters became lead vocalist WTF ever told him he could sing.Disaster plus he came across as a complete ass

Waters voice, no i think his vocals are perfect for the arrangements they produced.

Their strengths imo are in the musicianship(is that a word) their use of instruments and electronic synthesis, along side the visuals.

Waters the man, it is true in his earlier years he was conflicted and difficult, but as the band have agreed it was part of what produced the body of work they did.

Today he is humorous , compassionate and honest about his past controlling behaviour and its affect on the band.

He is a committed social justice campaigner, he is up for it. As i mentioned in an earlier post, we went to see him last summer in Birmingham the day after he arrived back from playing in Germany , where had been labeled a fascist by some parts of the media, due to the leather trench coat he occasionally wares

Nothing could be further from the truth, as his body of work and live show represent.

At almost 80 , he is still a powerful performer , voice and all

Neither he nor Gilmour are great singers, but both are suited to the respective vocals they laid down for Floyd.

Musicianship wise they do not come close. Gilmour is by far the better musician.

The transformation of Floyd from the Syd years to the Animals LP would not have happened without Gilmour.

I am lucky enough to have seen Floyd live, Roger live and Gilmour live. All fantastic shows.

Absolutely

Dave Gilmour the musician always humble.

I consider myself very lucky to extremely fortunate to have been in my musical prime across the 70s, 80s. 90s and into 00s.

My personal tastes range from Pink Floyd, acid house, Drum and base , punk , reggae, classic house, techno, trance, dub, and pretty much everything in between, i draw a line at acid jazz though.

But ive been captivated by Pink Floyd and their story since I started listening to Dark side of the moon in the early 70s.

For me they are timeless,

I believe Animals was released 47 years ago today. I should give it another listen.

It's been on repeat for me the past few weeks. It's a phenomenal piece of work and definitely my 2nd favourite after Dark Side.
Dogs and Pigs (Three different ones) are remarkably great songs. I just love that Whoooooooo after the first line in Pigs.
Also, after ifarka's comment about Waters being in his 80s now, I am not so sure how old the footage is but there is a concert of him in what seems to be a city square. It looks relatively recent and he just blows the crowd away with Pigs

It's amazing how they progressed from a song like Arnold Lane to Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Almost a totally different band/sound

Syd to Gilmour, Admin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah. I actually didn't mind Syd's solo stuff

Not so big on early Floyd. I love Astromony Domine and I do like Ummagumma purely for Careful with that Axe Eugene.

Would love to see them live but I think its 100% never going to happen.
Waters was fuming that they continued when he left. They did that Hyde Park slot in 2005 and then Wright died. I've heard Gilmour say Pink Floyd died the day he died.
