DPL v Stockport County

Interestingly they lost 0-2 away to Wigan in the Trophy back in December and although they started with a weakened team they finished more or less at full strength and were unable to claw back the deficit.

Since then there was the big shock was the FA Cup replay loss at home to Aldershot and it may not have looked as though they had gone into that less than seriously, but the manager found the performances very disappointing.

Following this they thumped Sutton 8-0 but then failed to win throughout the rest of December losing at Notts County and just drawing at Barrow and Bradford. They kicked off 2024 losing at home to Mansfield and only in their most recent fixture - home to Walsall - did they resume winning by 3-1.

So how do you rate our chances?

Who do we think will play now that we have a wider pool of candidates?

There is theory that we do better against better teams. I am looking forward to seeing these new signings in action which is a treat which will remain in store for a while yet.

If they make us stronger there is hope I suppose and nothing would please me more, but versus the best it seems a vain hope that there will be sufficient cohesion to win this one. However I'll plump for a draw 2-2 (Ironsde/Carty)

Logic says we should lose, but I had dream last night, and we were winning 2-0 when the game was halted because of heavy rain and dangerous lightening, but not abandoned. I woke up before finding out if play resumed. Based on that experience, I'll also say 2-1 to the Rovers! Ironside to score (may change that when I see the team).

Not so much a dream more like a nightmare!

4 headed goals from them. Should spell out the problem with our defence or lack of it.

A nightmare indeed - I wish I had not got up to watch the game. I switched off after 11 minutes and the second goal, switched back on just in time to see the third goal. I then watched the last 15 minutes hoping to see a second goal for us.
Calling that performance pathetic, is being too kind to those players today. Any more performances like that and it is "National League here we come" - and we would not be able to beat many teams there.
At least not watching much of the game gave me some more productive time - hand washing eight wine glasses!
I have an appointment of Tuesday morning on the other side of Portland - not much encouragement to race back in time for the game!

Getting up early is one of the least exhilarating activities in my life and I can well understand how it must be for you Micky for the UK 3 o'clock fixtures coupled with even more exceptionally freezing winter conditions in Oregon.

One might enquire "What can be said about such a tragically inept display?" It was riddled with the kind of mistakes which accompany a total lack of commitment. How the newcomers figured within this I do not know, but they must be wondering whether their careers will ever recover from the association.

I think I remember McCann's play-off squad being industrious and we should be able to expect that at the very least. Instead I get the impression that the core just sat back and let it happen.

The triumph of reality over hope is illustrated in the league matches in which we made our expert predictions. The Wigan match illustrates how impossible it is to rationalise what is going on right now at the club.

It's a big week ahead and perhaps I'd choose 3 points at Sutton over a cup win.
