Striker signing options

Eric ten Hag has said United would like to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

My criteria for this would be that they are more proven than Hojlund (and ideally Premier League proven), are older than Hojlund, and can provide competition for the starting berth. They would also need to be able to fit within budget and not put the best of our budget at risk. For this reason I’m ruling out Toney and also Watkins, who will possibly be playing in the Champions League with Villa anyway. That’s why I’m also ruling out Gyokeres, Osimhen et al.

My options are:

Dominik Solanke - 26 - 18 goals in all competitions this season - transfermarkt value £30m

Patrick Schick - 28 - has scored 1 in 2 for Leverkusen including some important recent goals. Scored from his own half for his country at Euro 2020. Similar profile to Hojlund (left footed, tall, strong) - transfermarkt value £19m

Serhou Guirassy - 28 - 26 in 24 games for Stuttgart this season. Transfermarkt value £34m.

Any other suggestions?

Solanke - I’m not sure we can replicate Bournemouths style of play on a consistent basis. Hes best suited with space behind and we have Hojlund for that.

Never seen the other two outside of YouTube, but I would say im always wary of stats in Germany.

It’s probably been said but Ivan Toney is the ideal solution.

I think we need to be clever with our transfers. The forward situation is three-fold. Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho should be a great front 3 - whether it is down to the players, the manager, a mixture of both, overall they have been disappointing, but they need to improve. Back-up is not good enough / unproven - Amad needs time, Antony (I don't even need to say anything)
Toney would be great, probably unrealistic, I honestly like the thought of Bowen, who has the versatility to play anywhere up front, seems to have a good attitude although who knows what the fee would be.
Whilst no doubt Solanke deserves a chance at a bigger club (I know he's been at Chelsea and Liverpool when a lot younger), I'm less convinced he can do it at a big club, and I reckon his fee would be way above 30 million.

Guimaraes or Palhinha in midfield, altho I would rather we brought in 2 CMs - unrealistic to expect both of them, but our CM lacks serious cover.

A new CB would also be nice, but I accept we can't bring in everyone everywhere. While injuries have been terrible, I think it's our midfield which is the biggest problem, sort that and it would help shore up attacks on the defence. And we simply need to score more goals.

But how the team is playing is down to ETH and that's the biggest problem. I know he's not going to say I'm on my way out, so I don't know how much Ineos want him to stay, but I think he is the biggest problem...........but it's all been said before

It worries mate that this is his focus.

We have average options at right back and aging : inadequate options at centre half, with a left back who’s injury prone.

We signed a goalkeeper for his ability to play with his feet and the players in front of him are not comfortable on the ball.

I know what I’d be looking to fix.

Mitrovic will be 30 a month in to the season. I don’t think we’re looking at that profile of player anymore.
If you’re looking at a player associated with Fulham, I’d be looking at Muniz.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Muniz looks a player. Issue is I don’t see how we can sign another CF from a PL club without parting ways with a vast sum of money. Reports a week or two back suggested we have a budget of around £170m this summer which is contingent on sales as well.

We need two CM players (Amrabat will leave, Eriksen is likely done, Casemiro is looking like poor business and our only proper CM is an 18 year old prospect beyond those mentioned), we need at least one CB and another FB and we need a CF. On the assumption Greenwood is out of the picture, another wide attacker would be useful as well given there are big doubts over Antony & Rashford.

Personally I’d absolutely be prioritising Amadou Onana at Everton. We’ve also been linked with Joao Gomes at Wolves as another CM option. Both would brilliant acquisitions, but I imagine that would be £100m for the pair. It doesn’t seem to me that we’re going to have the people we want in place to make the best long-term transfer decisions this summer, so I’m not holding out much hope.

Solanke would be a decent shout if the price is right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Onana is another one I’m not really seeing it with. I’d prefer Gomes from Wolves.

Also, surely it’s £170m plus sales? And it won’t just be incoming transfer fees, it’ll be wages saved from players leaving on a free, such as Martial and Varane.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why “surely”? I’m only going by reports (which may well be unreliable) so I’ve no idea. But I’d be very surprised if we had £170m to spend outright before anyone was first off the books.

What we will end up getting:

Someone aged over 30
Someone requiring a massive paycheck
Someone with no resale value
Someone who has to work with no service from the midfield.

A new striker will barely make any difference to our set up if we don't have a midfield surely.

Midfield would be my priority, too. A stronger midfield would improve us on the ball and potentially help create more opportunities to score goals, and also to offer better protection to our defence.

That said, we can’t go into next season with only one proper CF and we can’t go without addressing CB & FB.

It seems near enough impossible to go and get a CF, 2x CM, 2xCB & a FB in one summer when budget constraints and incomplete sporting structures are taken into account though.

Whoever the CF is, he will be a similar player to Hojlune.

ETH has made it clear how injuries have made it hard to play patterns of football they want to play, so he isn’t about to go and sign a completely different type of CF.

His comments don’t bode well for Greenwood or Rashford. Clearly he wanted lots more from Rashford this season.

Probably not much point in ETH targetting anyone in summer, cos it’s probably likely he’ll be getting turfed out for southgate

Solanke proving today why he’d be a good signing for us.
