Why doesn't 5th place get top 4 this season? I have seen it said all season that if Spurs finish 5th then they'd get top 4 cos there's an extra top 4 spot this season. Was that all just lies?

The changes to the format of the Champions League next season are mirrored in the Europa League. You'll have 8 games against 8 different teams (2 from each of the 4 seeding pots). Added to presumably more domestic cup games, you will need good squad depth to cope.

Ahh I forgot this was the last year of the good European formats . Aside from the CL -> EL drop outs I can’t stand the new format.

The drop down from the CL was ridiculous. You'd get big PL teams like Liverpool or United dropping out of the CL and then going on to coast to defeat against some mid level Spanish team. EL teams deserve better quality opposition than the PL crap that drops out of the CL.

Perhaps the solution might be to play the EL after the CL has finished, and then move the better of the CL losers into the EL, rather than the worst of the losers?

We've been top of that coefficient table something like 9 times out of the last 10. It's only because suddenly it matters and gets you UCL and Spurs would.have benefitted from that we failed this season. Still comfortably the strongest most entertaining and most popular league.

Nice hyperbole.

It's actually 5 out of 10 for individual seasons, and 4 years for the rolling 5-year ranking.

That isn't all that impressive considering it's been considered the world's richest football league since the early 2000s.

The Europa League is Ange’s chance to show that the club want to be winners. Take it seriously and with all sincerity it becomes almost impossible for us to get knocked out before the Quarters - that’s the minimum return I am looking for.

The CL would have been better financially of course but this side would have taken some heavy beatings in that comp, we’re too open and the top sides would have had a field day with our high line. I suspect we might take one drubbing in the Europa group stage because of this also.

The Europa league as it stands will likely be our best shot at a trophy as there will be no elite sides, top 8 get a bye through the first KO round and by the time the KO round action really heats up it will be mid March, by which point the League cup will be over and knowing us the FA cup also - 4 Euro games to sort out amongst the league season should be doable
