Tosin Adarabioyo

Manchester United are vying with Newcastle to sign Fulham central defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 26-year-old is a free agent on 30 June, having opted against extending his contract at Craven Cottage.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a known admirer of the former Manchester City youth player and the Magpies were thought to be close to completing a deal to sign him.

Anyone know much about this guy? I think we’re going to need 2 CB’s this season even if it’s only Varane that’s going to be leaving, and a long term partner for Licha provided he isn’t crocked again.

i was hoping we would get him but apparently he turned down our offer

Don’t see any real cons to signing him.

Free, relatively young, had an impressive season, probably wouldn’t command huge wages or expect to start every game.

If he is a free agent soon, I would expect there to be a lot of competition if he was anywhere near decent.

I have to be honest, I don't know how good he is and whilst I want us to be clever with our signings, we need to make sure we are getting a fair degree of quality.

There seems to be a number of comments, related mostly to the fact he wouldn't cost much etc, but not so many to - very good player and has great presence etc etc

He wasn't even a regular for Fulham.

He played essentially every game he was available for last season. He was out for a groin surgery at the start and then played 20 games

Was highly rated in City's academy. He left for game time like Sancho did.

*Provided* his groin is OK, we don’t end up in a daft, spiralling wage/signing-on fee bidding war, and he’s happy being third/fourth choice, it’s a no-brainer for me.

Would have to partner an LCB with pace and better ability playing in the ball out (Martinez/Shaw would be fine), but would be an adequate replacement if Maguire could be moved on.

The new regime is gonna have to start playing smarter moneyball, and moving Maguire on for £20m-£30m and trading his wages for Adarabioyo’s are the kind of smart moves we’re going to need to see.

We’d still need a Varane replacement though.

Would leave us with:

Varane replacement - Martinez
Adarabioyo - Lindelof/Shaw
Kambwala - Evans?

Todibo seems to be linked strongly, and from what I’ve read (haven’t watched him), would seem a fairly obvious Varane replacement.

Personally, I’d be looking at cashing in on Lindelof (even if it’d only bring in £10m), using Shaw at CB and LB, offering Evans another year as emergency cover and to help develop the youngsters, and bringing in a new LB.

I’d give Lindelof away for free, he’s terrible. Rather keep Maguire.

Maguire has the potential to bring in a fair bit more cash, which we’re desperately going to need to reinvest. He’s also our highest earning defender (on about 50% more than Lindelof apparently), and we could do with those wages off the books.

On the wages front, not having CL football and Varane and Martial leaving is going to help a lot. If we can shift two or three of Casemiro, Sancho, Eriksen and Maguire as well, we’ll have done good business there, at least with the outgoings.

Incredibly, the six mentioned above are reportedly all in the top ten earners at the club.

A quality free transfer is something we need. Hope we bring him in, and that he thrives for us
