Confidence

Is a major factor in all sports, including football.
Some players have it naturally eg Cantona, Scholes, Irwin, Casimiro, they know they're good.
Others get it by playing well, and thus grow in confidence.
But it's also a team thing, knowing what your teammates do, having confidence in each other and the system, something we saw yesterday.
Which I believe is a contributory factor in our poor season, never the same team, which is not in Erik's remit

One thing I do blame Erik for is persisting with a two man midfield, for which we didn't have the players.
Still, he's got the message.

He'll never have the midfielders for the suicidal tactics he was using. To continue it with Casemiro Eriksen Mount midfield pairings hoping it will work was bordering on mental illness. We sacked ole for trying to adjust to players who were not his preferred ones and somehow want to excuse ETH for playing a system that he cannot execute even if he bought all the players he wanted.

He has no excuse. I'm tired of them.

If you're under the impression we didn't play with two in midfield yesterday, he hasn't got the message because that's exactly what we did with Amrabat and Mainoo.

McT alternated between forward and mid, and did a lot of work in that area, as did Bruno. But they both got forwards when we broke, especially Bruno.
I thought McT was an unsung hero yesterday.m

He has plenty of reasons though.

The big difference yesterday was the defence was better protected by everybody in front of them. Our players and lines were much closer together which is why City didn't create a lot through the middle.

If you look at the average player positions from yesterday, you'll see that it is still very clearly a central midfield two.

Even though I think ETH should go, are we really just talking to all these other potential candidates so blatantly and then possibly decide, nope there is no-one better than ETH currently available, so you can stay??!! I think ETH is hard-working, has his faults and ultimately not good enough, but we shouldn't be treating him like this.
It really feels like we treat our managers and players like pieces of meat

None. Teams obviously worse that is had better defence, better structure, better cohesion. All he needed was to look at his team and play to its strengths, see players obviously underperforming and give them a rest. Play th best players in their positions. All hings the basic UEFA coaching qualifications start with. There's no reason to excuse this.

That's actually laughable. If you cannot tell the difference between excuses and reasons there is no help for you.
