Now the Transfer window has closed and there has been a lot of movement from United, incomings and outgoings, I think we have done fairly well all in all.
All values IN EUROS from https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985
Incomings:
Leny Yoro 62mil
Manuel Ugarte 50mil
Matthijs de Ligt 45mil
Zirkzee 42.50mil
Mazaraoui 15mil
Total 214.50mil Euros
Outgoings:
Scott McTominay 30.50mil
Mason Greenwood 26mil
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 17.6mil
Willy Kambwala 10mil
Hannibal Mejbri 6.40mil
Facundo Pellistri 6mil
Alvaro Fernandez 6mil
Donny can de Beek 500k
Sancho 10mil Loan Fee + Obligation to buy (around 20-25mil)
Total 113mil Euros
Add to the likes of Varane and Martial leaving with big wages. It seems like a good clean up of players, no one I will TRULY miss...
If Ugarte can perform how he did at Sporting, it would be a big plus. Overall INEOS' first window has been quite successful I think.

United's transfer window is a bit like a Bank Holiday shopping trip. You spend half the day buying shiny new shiite that you think will make you feel happy. Then the other half of the day at the dump getting rid of the shiite you bought the last couple of years. The stuff that didn't make you happy after all. Circle of life innit?

I’d liken it more to a car boot sale, hoping to find treasure in others trash.

Different time, when we played 4-4-2, and we had a great midfield to be able to do that, we were the best team in the land, so cope afford to rotate the 4 strikers etc.
We aren't anywhere near that now, and at best would play with one recognised striker. I would have liked to have seen Toney here, just to see what he could do, and I felt the price was reasonable but we'll just have to play what if with that one and see what Zirkzee can do
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fact is we had 3 or 4 options in most positions when we were good last. Regardless of the timeline or the way Fergie set up. Im sure its someting that INEOS will be working on over the next few windows
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would say under SAF we usually had a very strong first team, some good replacements in certain areas (i.e up front in the 99 days) and decent enough cover in other areas. More importantly, we had a great manager who helped instil a winning mindset within the squad as a whole.
It's so much easier for players to integrate into a winning squad than coming into one with uncertainty and playing second fiddle in a side that isn't the best - I mean the likes of Butt, P Neville, O'Shea, Smith, Park to name a few, who knew their job but accepted they weren't first choice but were willing to work with that for a while at least. Even when we had the occasional ropey player, we were able to absorb that and then get rid.
That is what City have got to a degree also. Not all their second choice players are world beaters, although some are very good indeed. But they loke better because the are part of a winning quad who know they are the best.
When those fringe players left us, there was a natural dip with most of them, because their surroundings were different, similar to whne City players move on - they just don't look a s good as what they were.
So it will always be difficult to have a very strong squad in the position we are in, but it is improving, but still a few players we need to get rid of.

Spot on. Pep’s brilliant management and the system of play drilled into the squad is what makes City so great. It’s why players like Ake and Kovacic can go there and look like world beaters, when they aren’t. It’s why Fergie’s United could carry players like O’Shea and Fortune.

Giving that Mason Greenwood is tearing Ligue 1 to pieces (another 2 goals tonight and leading the league with 5 goals in 3 games), and we’re desperate for a goal scorer, I’m going to rate our transfer window 4/10, based on what we’ve seen so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greenwood was never going to play for United again after the audio went public. So getting some money for him with a decent sell on clause was a huge plus this window
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I get that. But losing a player of that calibre in a position we’re in dire need of quality, and not replacing him with a player of equal quality/potential, is why I’m assessing our window poorly. I can’t judge Ugarte (legit never seen him play) but I’m not blown away by what I’ve seen from any of the others yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He hasn't played for us for 2.5 years and was never going to again. He's already been replaced by Hojlund and Amad. Nothing to do with this window other than the fact we finally got rid of him.

I can't go above a 7 out of 10 for the window for the fact we haven't bought an elite goal scorer when we badly needed one.
Lack of goals will be out Achilles heel yet again this season.
I'm happy enough with some of the players we signed though but can't help feel we are still lacking which after £600m spent in 3 summers isn't a great place to be.
We shall find out this afternoon and in the coming months where we are as a team.

We won't be a 'team' with three newcomers so our hope is individual brilliance.

We could have Haaland up front and still struggle to score. What we need to do is actually start creating chances. Hojlund was pretty clinical last season. We just don't create enough

I don’t think we can say Hojlund and Amad have replaced Greenwood, when neither have reached close to the level he was playing at for us.
That said, I do think Amad is an exciting prospect. I hope to see more of him and Garnacho this season, at Rashford’s expense.

That's because they are playing under a manager who doesn't set a team up in a way they create many chances.
