Alisha Lehmann quotes

Alisha Lehmann (Douglas Luiz's girlfriend):

“I do the same job as Douglas, play for the same club but I earn 100 times less money. It's not fair. It's something that affects me, because I'm a woman..."

Am I the only one who finds quotes like this utterly stupid?

It would essentially be like a music artist who plays in venues that hold a couple of thousand people asking for the same money that Taylor Swift gets for selling out the biggest stadiums in the world.

But the key part is that she thinks that her not being paid the say "isnt fair". Her words.

This demonstrates a lack of understanding that football wages come down to economics .

I may be misjudging this lass who on her insta page poses in bikinis and does footy tricks wearing not a lot, but on the balance of probability i dont not think her fairness comment is pointing to the oppression of the women's game in the 50s as the reason she cannot earn what her BF does.

And while that may be a valid point, there exists a fundamental difference between the men and women that mean men are far more inclined to participate in competitive sport in a beyond logical tribal way. How many websites are there like this with men obsessing about football in their masses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, I'm not in a position to verify, but it has been suggested that the quote including the phrase 'not fair' is inaccurate. Secondly, she clearly does understand the economic reality behind it in her acknowledgement that it will take a long time to work toward parity.

The point I made to which you are responding was not a complete assessment of her position, but reflecting on the fact that a lot of men seem to have got upset about a soundbite which seems to be give a misleading slant on her substantive views, either because of editing out context or paraphrasing it to make it more unreasonable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Her statement on it not being fair is clear.

Her statement on it taking a long time is not clear as to whether she is talking about equality OR the female game catching up in popularity/economically/ pay.

I would suggest that as she refers to fairness it is more likely she is talking about equality no economics .

I have also read her interview in full as published. I know how the media works so they may well have edited it themselves to give that slant and headline. But read in full there is not much wider context. No historic oppression of the women's game seems to be in her mind.

It's not fair may alao just be a throw away comment and she may not be making any real point about equality or anything serious. You never know. And I'd agree it's easy to look at her read her words and reach a judgement, which I have to a degree but only after reading everything printed of her interview.

Male players earn FAR too much, that’s the real issue

You might have just solved the conundrum. Maybe Alisha would be happy if her boyfriend got an 80% pay cut.

I think if women want to give it a serious go and take all proceeds and finaces they should set up their own clubs (rather than using the name, facilities, brand of their male counterparts which have 100s of years history). Make their own grounds/clubs/ and take all the benefits from that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn’t have to read far to find the usual ignorance on this subject.

Genuinely surprised by some, and not so much by others.

The logic of the comments is a bit off, but replies like this are absurd.

The women’s game would have the history and might well be on a similar footing to the men’s game, if the men in charge hadn’t stopped it completely.

What happened was a disgrace and set the women’s game back decades.

So the idea that we should all forget about that and tell the women’s game to sort it themselves is ignorant in the extreme.

Yeah what she says is ridiculous. I probably would still feck her to be fair but defo gone down in my estimation.

Don't let the facts get in the way or your virtue signalling..

In 1901 the fa cup final was attended by over 100000 supporters.

To suggest that the oppression of the women's game has stopped it being on the same footing as the men is backed up by absolutely nothing. The men's game has been huge for +120 years, since professional clubs were formed.

The concept of fairness is debatable.

Regardless of that though, a number of posters here made the leap of interpreting "not fair" as her demanding equal pay, which is patently not the case in the quotes provided, regardless of whether they're accurate or not.

That to me is at least as striking, if not more than a women footballer saying she feels that such a wage gap is unfair.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

And the women’s game was attracting over 50,000 people in 1920, with tens of thousands outside the ground who couldn’t get in.

The record attendance for a women’s game is about 110k.

It’s an absolute fact that the oppression of their game has prevented any chance of it growing and so none of us really know what it could have achieved.

But it’s an absolute fact that asking them just to start from scratch in their own is ignoring all of what has gone before, which I think is ignorant.

Having that opinion doesn’t mean I’m virtue signalling. Perhaps I just have a different opinion than you and maybe I’ve bothered to educate myself on the subject.

Oh, and I said similar, not the same.

Her statement on it not being fair is clear.

That comes from the quote which some seem to be suggesting is fake. Have you verified that it's genuine?

A quote which also, genuine or otherwise, appears to have been logically misinterpreted by several people on the thread.
