So it comes to this. The two games which will answer ETH's Manchester United future.
Looks like he's going to need to beat Porto and Villa to remain in charge. Two defeats will be terminal.
How will everyone feel if we win the next two games? Pretty happy I hope!

I just read that if we did sack EtH it would cost the club £17.5m, which would be half the amount the club saved by making 250 staff redundant.
It really was completely unnecessary to give him a contract extension over the summer and it does make you wonder weather INEOS will sack him now when they’ve been so clear in trying to save money at the club. Hopefully whatever decision is made for footballing reasons and not cost saving ones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you were keeping ETH then you had to extend. A manager with 1 year left on his contract has little authority
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure that is what has left him with little authority. It was the whole debacle over the summer of the will they / won't they scenario.
Some of us wanted to keep him, some of us wanted him gone in the summer. But regardless of which side you were on, the way they decided to keep ETH left him with no authority - the players would have felt that, and with a squad that probably doesn't buy into ETH anyway, that doesn't help at all. So barring an amazing start by ETH, people were thinking, he is already on a tight-rope, regardless of what is said in public.
We are now in a crazy situation where every match just becomes the 'will this one finally get him the sack', so barring a miracle run of great results, it's just a matter of when.
And even though these players don't truly believe in the manager, I have never known any similar situation where a manager needs his players to really turn it on and they bail him out - just doesn't work like that.
So Ineos will say what they need to say, but in the background they are probably looking at the next step without ETH.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Talking to other managers first was the first bad move.
But then to do that and leave him on 1 year would just underpin their lack of confidence.
At least giving him a 2nd year says "he's our man".

Dev, it was wrong to talk to others regardless fella, imagine being ETH thinking yeah I’ve got a year but they didn’t really want me!

Does it look like he has much authority now?
At least see how the season starts before triggering an extension. We’re only 6 league games in and it already looks like EtH is still struggling with any kind of game plan and the players look completely disinterested.
I’m pretty sure managers often sign extensions into their last season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think settle managers can leave it late to re-sign. But there was so much noise around ETH leaving that i think they had to show some support once they decided that he was staying.
You face the same issues now re: replacing him as you did in May.
I'd say even if the intention is to get rid, stick with him because 1. you're paying him, 2. it will show your players for what they are (committed professionals who fight for the badge or moaners who wont play for the manager) 3. It may improve and players may buck up if they realise ETH is not going anywhere.
There are downside but i dont think a caretaker for most of the season is really going to help your situation.
Southgate looms in the background like the undesirable backup car on Clarkson's Grand Tour series.

For me, after you have talked to other managers, doesn't matter what type of extension you give the manager - the damage is done. 'He's our man' means nothing because of previous actions you have taken.
When have you heard of a club speaking so openly to other managers and then go back to the current manager and say, ok, we're going to keep you??!!
Was a really poor way to do things, and even though I didn't want to keep ETH, it was a poor way to treat him and whilst he probably would fail anyway, it was really setting him up to fail.
But just hope Ineos have learnt from that, and there are other things which they have done well.

Its going to take more than winning the next two games for THag to save his job. If we do win those and I hope we do, its just like this United to lose games v Brentford, Febernache and WestHam. One step forward and 2 steps back is how THag rolls atm.
He needs to put a winning run together to get us in a good place that we can challenge for top 4 by January. Plus any transfer spend in the Jan window. If he isnt there then hes gone before Christmas.
If he does lose at Porto and Villa then he clearly deserves the sack.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Loses both games and he’s gone!
Odds of the sack before KO yesterday were 8/1 today 17/20.
RVN is the bookies favourite, yeah ex player and all that and he’s already here, is he the man for the Job? Personally I don’t know if he is or who is for that fact!
I’d give De Zerbi a chance out of the top contenders.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How is De Zerbi a top contender when he's barely half a dozen games into his tenure at Marseille?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you actually took the time to read and understand that my comment was about bookies odds!
Tell you what I’ll make this really simple for you!
So out of the top 5 names listed by the bookies for the next Utd manager De Zerbi was 5th favourite although his odds would suggest it’s unlikely they’ve still have him in the mix, all I was expressing was my opinion that out of the top 5 names listed I’d like to see De Zerbi at Utd!
Hope that clears up the confusion.

It's not quite the same as sacking him in May though, we would now have to pay him double (money we don't really have to waste, especially after making so many staff redundancies recently).
I think Ineos will likely keep him on because they chose to back him in the summer and he'll cost too much to sack but I'm not sure the players are going to change their tune if he does stay, we heard the same about them if he stayed after the end of last season and already the players don't seem to care.
I'm not really sure what the best solution is tbh. I'm all for giving managers time and while he isn't new he's under new owners who are clearly doing things differently. However saying that the football has been so poor and you don't see where improvements are going to be made and that's all down to the manager.
Since day 1 I've felt EtH lacks character which is key to runing a big club, he just doesn't look like someone players will believe in or works their arsses off for. And when you see them on the pitch they don't really look like they know what they're doing.

Strange reply, just “it does” would of been suffice!
Gambling is something I avoid but if people want to take a punt on who the next manager will be then who are we to judge!

Strange?
You mean stranger than your much more long-winded, angry reply going to pains to explain that you only named De Zerbi because the bookies had, when "He's a top contender according to the bookies, not according to me" would have sufficed.
