How do you really feel right now?

First of all I want to say that I would never want us to lose. As someone who likes a flutter, I know folk who are 'cold' enough to bet against their team if they think they will get beat, which I don't get at all. They say that if the teams wins, they have the 'emotional high' of their team winning etc (I would just not include Utd in any of my lines to be safe either way). Anyway I digress.

I have gone beyond the hope that ETH will turn it around. I admit I didn't really believe he would turn it round at the start of the season, but was willing him to do so, to prove me wrong. But now, the whole world kind of knows it's a case of when not if.

And I have to admit, I'm not even sure I want us to put in an amazing performance/s, which would just prolong the agony. I guess if we could scrape draws in the next 2 games with iffy performances, it kind of suits where I am at. I would actually fear that winning with 2 iffy performances would just fuel that ETH is getting it right etc.....long term, it's just not going to happen. I can't even imagine us putting in 2 good performances - we have rarely done it before, so why start now?

No doubt I will get pelters for not being a proper fan, for not really wanting the team to perform well, but that's how bad things have got to get to this stage. Am I the only one, or how are you all feeling?

I have been following Utd since the early 80s, so have seen a lot of bad times, not just recently, but this is as low as I can remember.

I started supporting United in the mid 80s for quite a few reasons.

My Dad supported United.

A Welshman was scoring goals up front.

I was a bit of an awkward so and so and didn't want to support the best team at the time that my mates supported. I had every reason to support Liverpool really seeing as how my Gran was born there, but evacuated here, during WWII.

My first proper memory was 1985 Cup Final and my Dad breaking his armchair celebrating Norman's goal.

I never want us to lose though. Never. The ideal scenario for me is always that we start performing and winning and the current manager stays. That's not to mean I think he should, of course.

Yes, very true. Choosing Liverpool would have been too easy though. I'd have probably gone Everton before them to be honest! As it is I took it from my Dad and I'm certain that he would have supported United because of the Busby Babes. Once it's there you don't change!

Why on earth did you start supporting ManU in the early eighties ,I wonder ?

Well the first match I have any memory of was the 5 min Cup final of 79. My brother supported Arsenal, so I supported who they happened to be playing, which was Utd - so i guess whoever they were playing in that final, I would have supported from then on. Although being from N ire, and I don't know if it's still the case now as I don't live there any more, most folk back then either supported Utd or Liverpool. With the old Milk Cup youth tournament held in N Ire (now SuperCup), Utd always sent teams and have a strong association.
Fav players growing up were Robson and Whiteside
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was seriously unfortunate.

If you'd taken interest in football via the cup final just one year earlier, you'd have been lucky enough to support Ipswich now.

It's known that N Irish players have a strong affinity with Utd, although once Evans goes at the end of the season (assuming he does retire), not sure who the next one will be.

And a bit strange that our best player is probably Bradley who plays 'for them'.........

Same with players from the South.

Can't see an Irish player at United for a while but who knows. Seamus Coleman would have been good enough at his peak but can't think of many other who would have been good enough in recent times.

Even by N Ire standards, the squad is really low on top quality players. I mean I remember in the 80s, we had some good top class players, such as Jennings, O'Neill, Whiteside, McIlroy, Donaghy, Nicholl to name some off the top of my head, but these days we don't have many playing in the top leagues.
I think it makes Michael O'Neill's international achievements pretty impressive.

Indifference.

I am not really bothered about Utd the way I used to. Even when we lose, I just shrug my shoulders. There are far more important things going on in my life.

It is sad to see where the club is at and it just shows the importance of planning for the future.
