Brenaldo Johnson.

Makes it 5 in 5

And 5 wins on the bounce for Spurs means momentum,
confidence and the feel good factor for the fans.

Got to keep it going on Sunday.

Shows how quickly football can turn. A month ago people would have wanted him nowhere near the starting 11, fast forward to today and he's become one of our most important players and is bang in form. He's in that vein of form now where you expect a goal when he is on the left and shooting, similar to Bale once upon a time.

I think Devonshire will find a lot of what was said still stands.. Would I swap him right now for someone more physical and direct and more creativity and maybe even fewer goals. Absolutely!!
This would make us a better all round team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He got PL 10 assists last season...bettered only by Palmer and Watkins. As good as Salah. More than direct players like Neto Eze Doku Saka Martinelli Olise Gordon etc etc 5 goals though, should have been 8-10 really.

This season, 5 goals already and it's creativity and direct running thats the issue.

It doesnt fecking matter what sort of player he is, where he can bang one every now and then from 20 yards or dribble passed 3....its the output that matters, and that is improving from a very respectable first season from the young man!

Judge him on what he does, not on what he doesn't do !

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many games where he was ineffective cause he was easily nullified and had minimal input. Against the better organised teams his failing are more apparent and clearly visible. We need a Team over 38 games to get into the top 4 and higher.
Wont have been a surprise to see an article eulogising Werner had he put the chance he had away yesterday .

I respect your opinions and we see things differently but just don’t agree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The early season form was as much a factor of our build up play as it was what he could offer. If we are slow, sideways, don't take risk then anyone who parks the bus will have some joy and we will likely struggle.

It is our challenge as a team to overcome that and I think the form of Deki in CM has really helped us and opened up space for others, including Werner, in recent games when we have, as a team created much better chances for the likes of BJ.

The way we play, we work positions on the corners of the area, and don't rely on an individual looking to dribble through a defence.

What i liked about BJ goal vs Brentford is that he put a little fake in there first, just to off balance the defender and then shifted it slightly and shot into the corner.

I agree with criticism above that he often hits the defender with his cross/shot and needs to do more to create that tiny advantage to be able to get the ball in. For me, that's not a massive issue and something that can easily be worked on. It is not a technical flaw that can never be addressed.

In his 2nd season I would expect to see development along these lines. Better delivery, better finishing, both of which come from working on aspects of his game.
What i have previously seen from his pace, his movement his work rate is very impressive and if he can add those improvements then he becomes a real threat. And i have been prepared to give a young player in his 2nd season that chance to develop rather than being judge jury and executioner about "one of our worst signings in history".

I know football is a game of opinions and I do not expect people to agree with mine, but statements/judgements like you (quoted above) and others have made simply make me have less respect the opinion of the person making it.

Always a player inside BJ i really like him reminds me of Michael Dawson not just the forest links but such a nice person.

Confidence player him and Solanke so similar.

Bj has seemingly started using his left foot more aswell and is getting that confidence/slight swagger to try more things. If BJ had Porros confidence we would have a world beater on out hands!

The only concern is BJ is not the player for a bad team so if we go through a dark patch he will not be the difference to pull us out of it.

You say that but he's kinda pulled us through the dark patch we were in.

Added time winner vs Coventry totally turned our season around. Ironically, possibly a Mark Robins moment against Mark Robins' team.

His 5 in 5 have underpinned our improvement

Realise this is about BJ and I’m well chuffed for him but couldn’t believe what I was reading about NDombele and lo celso last night

Not that I’ve seen their matches this season but both are suppose to be bang on it

Le Celso with 5 goals already

So frustrating

Quite.

He’s definitely the worst in recent history considering he was our record signing at the time.

He gave us glimpses, but untimely he simply couldn’t be ar$ed.

Good post Devonshire!

May I update my post based upon the player's improvements......
Brennan Johnson is a good winger. He is fast and he has gotten better at centering his passes. He is scoring well when given easy chances by other players, but is certainly no Harry Kane. But he is positioning well and getting into scoring situations. and he is taking the chances he is given, whereas Timo Werner is not.

Wanted to reply as I was mentioned in the post as well.

Problem being a lot of the comments were cut without the full context of the article.

I haven't changed my opinion on Brennan, he seems a top lad and I really want him to become a world class player, I want every spurs player to succeed at the club.

BJs confidence is sky high at the mo, and we are starting to see him be more clinical with his finishing. He putting himself onto areas where he is more likely to score.

My main issues are that his technique is pretty poor and his decision making off quite often. He's not someone that you'd fancy to score a 1v1 even 7/10 times.

At his age his key traits, attributes and skills are largely set. It's incredible hard to substantially change a players technical ability from one extreme to another.

Emerson royal, was one of our hardest trainers according to Ange, paid for extra one to one training but did his core abilities improve that much ? No, so we sold him.

I still stand by I don't see Brennan making it in the long term but am glad he's enjoying his football, has a smile on his face and his helping the club. Long may it continue.
