"Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."
This typically sums up Manchester United, probably post Fergie I would say - but especially under EtH. Conciding early/late/stupid goals, and beeing awarded wrong/unjust desicions.
But - Is it anything to it?
Yes, we could have scored 3-4 goals in first half against West Ham, but actually we did in total have 2xG while West Ham had over 3xG in the match.
I would sum it up to "We make our own luck..."
What really bothers me is, as a fan of the team I see very few players in the current squad that are suited to play for ManUtd, to be fair I personally don't like any of yesterdays starters but for Eriksen and Hoijlund, and currently Eriksen is the only one in form. Even these two players are not good enough to play regularly for us to be fair, but nice human beeings.

Someone should check the goals at Carrington. It might turn out they're a fraction bigger than they should be.

A fraction? After yesterday, I think they're quite dalot bigger.

As I said earlier last week, it’s a curse. Until it’s broken expect everything that can go wrong to go wrong and often.

Generally in football, you do make your own luck.
When you dominate games, you’ll find you get more big decisions in your favour.
United are open to these decisions affecting games because they’re not going out and winning games well.

Many of us could see this happening when we signed kid novice strikers who have no experience of being able to be relied on when the chips are down. The league is too fast for Zirkhorst (Capello opined the other day).

I think everyone would recognise United were unlucky yesterday and they were on the wrong end of a terrible VAR decision.
However, sadly for Erik Ten Hag, we can't class this as "one of those days". They happen far too often for that now. A good team rides the bad luck and still finds a way to win.
The xG doesn't tell the whole story though. Yesterday we should have been ahead before West Ham got their chances.

On the other hand though we tend to get edgy and defensive after scoring a goal so if we’d scored just one of those chances in the first half perhaps we’d have seen the West Ham ‘step up’ happen sooner.

Yes, that's why I didn't state we should have been 2 or 3 up because goals change games. We score then the game plan perhaps changes from both teams.
What I sense every time I watch us is that when the opposition raises the intensity we struggle.

I just sense a team that is so apprehensive and playing on eggshells, shot of any confidence or belief. We have to expect every team to raise their game against us - we no longer strike fear into teams, we are seen as mentally and physically weak.
Of course we need to get over this and make ourselves feared again, and it just ain't going to happen under this current manager

Kinsang. At the bare minimum we need to make ourselves an uncomfortable side to play against. It's just so easy at times for the opposition to get into games.
I really don't know what the answer is but I don't think sticking with this manager now, even if part of a long term plan, is the way to go. I get what others are stating on here that he is, in effect, an interim of sorts now but that doesn't command any kind of respect and gravitas I don't think.

Perhaps more importantly, you're more likely to neutralise or minimise the impact of bad calls.
Even if you have a couple of strong penalty shouts turned down, you're still more likely to score from the many other chances you create.
Conversely, if you create very little or have a tendency to be very profligate in front of goal, then those same two incidents mentioned above are going to have a bigger negative impact.
In addition, bad calls are much more easily forgotten when you get a result out of the game, but stick in the mind more if they cost you points.
Consequently, it's quite easy to get the impression that teams with high chance creation and conversion (as well as teams that barely concede any chances at all) benefit more from favourable decisions - not because they don't get bad ones, but because those bad calls are less likely to have a negative impact.
