1) Picking Tim Walz
He was decent enough but a bit too beige and folksy. Appeared very bland next to the slick JD Vance in their debate. Should have picked Josh Shapiro.
2) Too many celeb endorsements
This is a mistake Hillary made in 2016. Pandered to the elites rather than the man on the street. I’m not some Qanon ‘the elites are lizard people’ type but Trump somehow resonates with the working man. Kamala does not.
3) ‘its the economy, stupid’
She never quite managed to convince the person on the street she’d make their life better financially. Yes, under Biden the economy improved but it’s not a ‘real’ achievement unless the average voter feels it in their pocket. Quoting percentages of economic improvement might as well be spoken in ancient Latin if the petrol prices are higher. She should have been very very clear about how she’s going to make the lives of the average person better. She was running on vibes rather than enticing policy
4) She’s a woman
No matter how good or bad she was as a potential president I just don’t think America is ready for a woman commander in chief. There’s a lot of misogyny in society, not least in the minorities that she was trying to entice. Not her fault obviously but something I feel she was never able to overcome.
I’m not saying all this to appear like a soothsayer as I felt she had a good chance of winning. But I guess these things were nagging doubts that many of us probably had but hoped for a better outcome.
