Barbra Banda

It's not just that there are question marks over her gender/testosterone levels. It's not just that it has caused controversy. Assuming that Barbra Banda is a biological female and has every right to play women's football, what exactly has she done in the past year over someone like Aitana Bonmati to warrant becoming BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year?

In the past year or so, Bonmati has won the World Cup, Nations League, Primera Division twice, both domestic cups, and has won pretty much every individual honour available. She's scored 19 goals in each of the last two seasons.

By comparison, Banda has won the NWSL Championship and NWSL Shield, as well as the NWSL Most Valuable Player award.

Going by that, she shouldn't have even been on the shortlist, never mind won it.

Todays instalment of ‘everything I don’t like is woke’

And you can bet that the people who are remotely triggered by this story are statistically far less likely than the median citizen to be concerned about things like erosion of the rule of law, oligarchic takeover of democracy, the implications of the abject failure of COP29 as we continue on a trajectory toward massively failing to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees (even before Trump reverses US commitments), etc.

You might want to update 1.5 degrees. That’s gone already.

Do you reckon there are any instances of men competing in men's events who would fail a gender test as a man? Like some sort of dancing or knitting contest or something?

Like a really feminine guy who we just assume is really camp but they just have really low testosterone levels or something that would make them fail the test as a man?

Also there is the fun element that there are sports people who were born a woman and have the woman parts etc but fail gender tests on other things.

The fun element is that those people arguing that if you are born with female body parts then you are a woman, somehow start arguing against their own viewpoint without realising it.

If a woman is born a woman and that can't change, Why are you now mad at a woman that was born a woman failing a gender test because of high testosterone levels for example, if they can't change from being a woman?

Or is it that people just aren't informed enough on a complex issue?

I feel it is the usual answer here, that people are stupid.

Another question: To be fair to (average) men, should we introduce testosterone limits in male sports?

I mean, some men have artificially very high testosterone levels, which obviously gives them athletic advantages.

To me it's black and white. Were you born with a vaagina?. if yes then you are a female.

I don't have time to look on twitter but can someone tell me if the same people who say that if you are born with women parts then you are a women, are also mad at this person who is a woman and born with woman parts, competing in a male sport? Is it the same people? Like JK Rowling for example? What's she mad at?

Why stop there - black athletes have genetic advantages for many sports...

She’s apparently mad at the BBC for spitting at women.

But I thought that Jamie Carragher works for Sky?

Maybe they need to head down the para-sports route of having specific categories for just how disabled (hormone infused) you need to be to be categorised as something else?

Various experts have had a go at putting a number against various forms of intersex or dimorphism and it is anywhere from 1 in 5000 to 17 in 1000!

Imposing gender identities, binning democracy, and reducing the inhabitable living space on the planet are all part and parcel of Project Freedumb.
