Derby County 1 - 2 Sheffield Wednesday

DERBY COUNTY v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY Championship #18

Sunday 1st December 2024, 3.00pm Pride Park, Derby

Sunday match, normal time kick off, what could go wrong?

Don't want to dwell on the Swansea game, alright I will. It was poor to concede in the manner we did, so early in the game. I feared the worst but we seem to gather ourselves, shake off the torpor and salvaged a bit of pride. But we still lost.

And now to the Owls on Sunday. Sheffield Wednesday are around us in the table. So, shouldn't be a problem.........should it?

A lot of fans were puzzled by the formation on Wednesday, it was new, it was daring but it failed to dazzle until Zetter's pseudo injury led a a pep talk which seemed to shore up a performance that could have resulted in embarrassment. And we nearly pulled it out of the abyss.

We are where we are (of course) and clearly expectations need to be tempered. The armchair pundits have all the answers of course and the line between polite questioning and pathetic chunterings are becoming increasingly blurred.

Struggling for a GGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL poster - Ang is making a pilgrimage to the hallowed ground and you lot will not realise that we have scored (if) until 2 minutes after the event. I'd ask Igor but does he know it's a 3.00pm K.O?

Team: Zetterström (GK), Wilson, Nelson, Cashin, Forsyth, Osborn, Adams, Thompson, Mendez-Laing (C), Harness, Yates

Subs: Vickers (GK), Phillips, Elder, Goudmijn, Jackson, Collins, Barkhuizen, Blackett-Taylor, Brown

Bannon did nowt first half. His goal was superb but it came out to him on a plate which was very fortunate for him.

I thought we were the better team and had Yates tucked away one of his straightforward chances we would probably have had a comfortable win with a very different analysis. So very frustrating but if we keep playing like that over the season we should get enough points to be safe. If we can get one more decent striker in January and get Ozoh fit again we ought to be a solid mid-table team.

Starting both Osborn and Tommo meant we had nobody on the bench to directly replace them. I thought both were tiring so I could see why they were subbed but I was worried at the time that it might make us a bit vulnerable. If we had won the game it makes Warne a genius - as it was, what seemed like a very poor decision by the ref cost us the match.

Well. I was too p'd off to comment after the game. We seem to be getting punished for every mistake atm. We dominated much of the play but as is happening these days we aren't taking our chances and we're being punished.
I agree Bannon looked ineffective 1st half but that chance fell to him and he knew just what to do. Credit Wednesday for getting back into the game when it seemed they'd get swamped in 1st half.
I'm just gutted that it's not happening for us atm but we have to get on with it. Cheers. Terry in Spain 🇪🇸 UTR
