Luton Town 2 - 1 Derby County

LUTON TOWN v DERBY COUNTY Championship #22

Friday 20th December 2024, 2000 Kenilworth Road, Luton

Friday night, under the lights, at a little cosy ground in someone's back garden, here is your regular match thread.

Well, what a difference a goal or four make.......to see the confidence surging back after going up by 3 goals within 29 minutes and totally bossing a team which bossed League 1 last year. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and a long time coming.

Still, we have to now put it together to a team that was not bossing the premier league but showed everyone that anything is possible and promotion is there for anyone.

One downer is the fact that our most consistent player with the most MotM awards this year suddenly sat down in front of me last Friday holding his hammy. Eiran Cashin will be a big miss - but time for Sonny/Nat to step up.

Talking of Friday, Ben Osborn was excellent, I know others were but to me Ben and the indomitable, unflappable, reliable, understated consummate professional what is Craig Forsyth continues to confound the advance of time with his 360th appearance for the Rams.

Friday, can we continue? Hopefully. Because if there is an embarrassment, the sharpy things from the cutlery drawer will be out - again.

Team: Zetterström (GK), Wilson, Phillips, Nelson, Bradley (C), Elder, Osborn, Goudmijn, Adams, Jackson, Yates

Subs: Vickers (GK), Ward, Forsyth, Barkhuizen, Collins, Mendez-Laing, Harness, Blackett-Taylor, Brown

Which reminds me of why Karl Mark drinks rooibos.

All proper tea is theft.

Likewise, Terry. I thought we played well last night and, but for the 2 deflections, would have deserved a win.
I do think there is a case to argue that so many substitutions can confuse the team shape ... taking off Goudmijn certainly did last night. We lost the momentum, they pressed harder and higher up.
I'm gutted with the result but not the overall performance.
We were 10th at our stage. Now 15th. 50 points is the target, can't come fast enough for me.
Bring on the Baggies

Hi Peeder. Yes I agree about the subs....and we lost "something" when they happened. Despite him having a good game v Pompey I don't feel NML generally has played that well this season. For me he looked lost when he came on last night. Fact is we're in transition...but these 2 1 losses are hard to take when its plain to see we should be taking something from these games. Cheers. Terry

We lost 30m of ground and played the last few minutes in our defensive third.
I always take heed of Spart and, as he said during the thread, we were playing the game in the wrong half of the pitch when we conceded.

"Always take heed of Spart....."? Well it is the season of goodwill but that's a first!

Most importantly Vidal, was the tea still hot?

It was not too bad actually. I had a bit on the way back to stave off slumber. The rest went down the plughole, like our 3 points.
