Arteta is not the one

Been teetering on the fence for a couple of years but I am now decided. Arteta is not the one. We will not win any consistent trophies with him at the helm.

1) He believes his own hype. Two years in a row, we have barnstorming finishes to seasons playing attacking football that us fun to watch. Only for us to go to something new the following season that has the players looking lost and now we look horrifically boring. I hate watching us. I multitask during our games now. Set pieces are ok, but if that is the inly way we score, it's a major problem. We seem completely clueless in the final third.

2) Transfers. Havertz is the transfer that will be circled as the beginning of the end for Arteta. A Chelsea flop who had done nothing for 3 years with ZERO discernable traits of being a top player and we spanked 65m and 275k a week on that??? A player brought in as a midfielder, flopped and then has purple patches up top and THAT is our main striker? Man cannot hit the ball convincingly and always seems to play within a shell of fear. That chance today from 3 yards is the final straw. Needs to be shipped out even at a major loss, because as long as he is here, Arteta will start him (for as long as Arteta is here.

3) Transfers part 2 - Arteta cannot handle big personas...and great players will come with them. Osimhen would score goals and come with baggage. As the manager, handle it...rather than go for a kid in Sesko and then no one else when that falls through. 700m spent and we have Trossard (a fallback option), Havertz (not a striker) and Jesus (who has admitted to not being prolific). This is now a bad joke. There are also NUMEROUS bad signings. Lokonga, Tavares, Vieira, Tomiyasu (never available), Havertz, Goalkeepers, Willian etc...his record in the market is splotchy for sure. It hurts even more when he can be ruthless with some players but then refuses to do the same in other positions.

Anyways...tired of venting. But I am willing to bet we win zero silverware in his FIFTH year - with that FA cup coming with Emery's team!

Yeah I'm not sure if we were confined by PSR this summer, or if we were just trying to set ourselves up well for the future, but selling ESR and bringing in Sterling really seemed like a gamble and it hasn't paid off at all.

But yeah it's pretty obvious what we need in the summer now. 3 signings, all need to be high quality.

When you look at your squad I think he has you punching above your weight. It ain't special at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I take serious issue with this. This is HIS squad. Every single player playing, he either brought in or has been happy to play/keep (Saliba, Martinelli, Saka). So us being light or lacking quality, is his fault. He has wasted a LOT of money.

Even having said that, the same team more or less, played in 2024 (Jan to June) is a scintillating manner. So why on earth did we start in August fully married to control and set pieces instead of building on what made us so lethal and a pleasure to watch for last half of the previous season???

Can understand Arteta wanting to make mainly defensive signings for his first years. We were a mess defensively when he came in, and he had to fix that as a priority, which he did manage to well. But that’s been pretty consistently solid for 2 seasons now, and we’ve not been able to add the quality upfront to take advantage of having a good defensive.
Too much of our attack working well was based on certain players and a certain selections being consistently available. Now we’ve not had that it has fallen well off, and this was obviously in the post. The club has tried and failed to go after strikers, so I think they know we need to strengthen there, but as forwards are the most expensive players, we never seem to want to take the risk to spend big there. But we really do have to focus on the forward line now. There’s not much point having a good defensive if you can’t score enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have we tried and failed to go after strikers? Are we saying Osimhen would rather play in Turkiye over in the PL? You think if we went to Sporting and have them the 85m for Gyokeres, he would say no to a hefty pay increase? Kudus is rumored to be available with a release clause of 85m (should have got him when he went for 40m). Nico Williams has a release clause.

Unless these players are all saying No, i highly doubt we have really tried to go after any attacking player and failed. That's just the club lying to us like they did in the Wenger years.

I wouldn't say the recruitment has been bad under Arteta. Ben White, Partey, Odegaard, Jesus, Zinchenko, Jorghino, Rice, Timber, Raya.

You can question one or two there now but there's np doubt when he bought them, they made you move forward.

The problem is no doubt that he's fcked up with not getting in a proper CF but the players brought in at various stages have been well thought out.

I don't know what it is about Arteta (I don't think it's the recruitment) but he's in danger of becoming the man who established Arsenal in the top 4, but couldn't take you any further.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But for all those you also have Ramsdale, Neto the cup tied goalie, Matt Ryan, Runnarson, Matt Turner, Willian, Trusty, Lokonga, Cedric, Mari, Tavares, Marquinos, Sterling and Havertz.

That is 14 of the 31 players he has brought in with the jury still out on Calafiori and Merino. You could add Kiwior to the group too as we seem willing to ship him out.

And then we have perma-crocks in Zinchenko and Tomiyasu...can they be counted as successes? I dont think so.

Arteta should be replaced by someone who can get us over the line and likes his teams to play good attacking football instead of the utter garbage being served up

Best manager you’ve had for years. If you’d had Isak and they’d had Havertz you would have thrashed them. In fact if you had Isak instead of Havertz, the dippers would be chasing you at the top of the table, not the other way round. You need a top striker not a new manager.

Defence looked all at sea last night, like saliba and Gabriel had never played together before

I think all in all the recruitment has been good on an individual basis, it's just not been balanced throughout the squad.

Maybe Darren, IMO we need two exciting attacking players to liven things up again.

Not sure Zinny , Jesus and Havertz were good buys and the jurys still out on Trossard

I think they were - at the time we couldn't attract the best of the best and they undoubtedly played a big part in getting us back into the top four and competing for the league. They're not good enough for more than a squad role for a title winning side however, so replacing them is the next test for Arteta.

Trossards been class for like 2 season and for 27Mil was/is great value.

He's just gone off the boil this season like so many of our attackers.
