Derby County 0 - 1 Sunderland

DERBY COUNTY v SUNDERLAND Championship #29

Tuesday 20th January 2025, 1945, Pride Park, Derby

I dunno, I just dunno, if every thing was conspiring against you, lets list them: the crossbar, heading over the bar with when a metre out, opposition goalies pulling off worldies, goals scored from 60 metres, freak results, losing after 11 penalties and on and on ad nauseum....along comes an injury our most reliable and mature player - Curtis Nelson out for the rest of season with an ACL injury - you would say we are unlucky. Nat Phillips also out.

Another winnable game on Saturday sets us up for an unwinnable game v Sunderland on Tuesday night. At least the last time we got relegated, we could console ourselves with the fact that it was only because of our 21 points shenanigan that told us it wasn't our fault.

Is it now our fault? Maybe, but hindsight is a great thing. Games have lost through naivety, stupidity and lack of talent.

Used to think we had enough in the tank - I'm now getting scared. Someone reassure me.

I'll be there and you lot will be there banging the drum from afar. Its nice that we stick together through sick and sin but what will be the endgame?

Team: Zetterström (GK), Wilson, Elder, Forsyth, Adams, Yates, Mendez-Laing (C), Thompson, Goudmijn, Harness, Jackson

Subs: Vickers (GK), Barkhuizen, Osborn, Rooney, Ward, Turley, Blackett-Taylor, Salvesen, Brown

Morgan Whittaker slammed by the new Plymouth manager for his attitude and application. Didn't beat around the bushes with his criticism.

So based on what's real and not the Dane we're looking at, Frulo , on loan at high flying Utrecht is apparently on his way. A DM midfielder who can also operate as an attacking mid.

His club however Borrussia Mod ( really long name, play in green and white I think? Not going to attempt to spell it) however state no offers received.

We've also submitted a bid for a European CB on a perm transfer and enquired around a PL CB. I'd imagine that's in reference to Bogarde of Aston Villa.

Talks of another winger too - with a Swedish winger linked to us but no names mentioned.

Hey - the football may be awful at present, the performances not much better too but at least we've moved our transfer approach away from Scotland!

(Although I'd like to see a couple of wee Scots in this side, they've always offered us something) Oh for a Johhny Russell and Craig Bryson! Id love a younger version of that free scoring Scottish RB we were linked to prior to injury too Callum Patterson. And a Kenny Dalglish

Incidentally I have just watched bits of Man U v Rangers - the so called "Battle of Britain". As far as I could tell, and happy to be corrected, but there never appeared to be more than one or two English or Scottish players playing. Much the same with the Old Firm games. Ain't the same. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

How many British players were there in the starting XI for the two sides combined?

How many with a 'Mc' at the start of their name for Rangers? Not like the good old days of a Walter Smith side

Fraulo looks to be very energetic and athletic, mainly right-footed with an eye for goal. That said he is on the young side and I wonder if we need more experience and drive. Whatever, this is just rumour at present.

Wes Harding (Millwall) - Can play as a RB and CB. Rumoured Champ target.

I see Louie Sibley has gone on loan from Oxford to Rotherham. Sometimes the issue is with the player himself and not the manager's "treatment" of him.

Same with Whittaker ? On his way to Boro.

What about Paul Warne to Bolton? I think he’s a decent bloke and very good at achieving promotion from division one. Unfortunately he’s not very good at preventing teams returning there.

Has his own song but Bob Dylan songs don’t make good football songs.
