Seems like an important milestone: central government has indicated its support for the regeneration scheme around a new stadium, as a significant contributor to economic growth. So now we have local and national government on board with the project.
The club's wording makes explicit what should have been clear to everyone: that public money would not fund the stadium, but would be essential to drive the wider regeneration of the area. That in turn makes United's project viable, and possible to attract private investment on more favourable terms.

Are they gonna do this for every club that could use the regeneration in the local area?
What a scam. Lucky for them they have the United fan base to defend them. They've just opened another line of sportswashing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is either trolling or the worst take I’ve seen in quite some time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which means it's pretty spot on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The club has already said the stadium will be paid for by United.
The massive housing regeneration project will also be built by a huge housing firm.
The only government money spent on this will be largely on improving infrastructure and transportation links which is very typical on a project this size.
So in other news a typical storm in a tea cup by the ABU brigade.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And so it begun.
The sportswashing and excuses that is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sportswashing? 😂
Do you know what sportswashing actually means? We will be paying for this new stadium for decades and it's going to seriously hamper us in the market too. We aren't being given it you prat.
Do you think someone is paying for it for us or something? I wish they were but that's not the case at all.

He's not. He's just thick as s41t3.
Had a good old debate on X this morning with a Forest fan because he said Glazers and INEOS should be paying for the several thousand new homes as well as the stadium.
These cretins aren't clever enough to work out it's not the actual government that build all these homes even though they are involved in the talks. Huge housing firms get the contract ultimately.
We won't be getting anything from the government in this project apart from some infrastructure improvements around the site. A massive non story really.

INEOS will pay for it and then lease it back to the club but at this point the club will no longer own its own stadium

No I read it a while back but can’t recall the link, actually to a huge multi billion turnover petrochemical business it’s not a massive investment, they can’t fund the purchase of players etc due to rules but this type of structural and development investment is aside from that and becomes an INEOS asset.
Dont think we will need to worry about the naming rights.

Don't United own quite a lot of land around the stadium too. Perhaps some of that can be sold/leased to developers as part of the overall regeneration.
