DPL v Chesterfield

We may be disappointed at the way we are playing, but at least we have got more points than 22 fellow inhabitants of our League. Last season Chesterfield were running away with the National League this time last year before wobbling towards the end, a wobble that has effectively continued into their season’s L2 campaign. They certainly have shown that they can turn on the form from time to time as they did at the reverse fixture which marked one of our low points.

Rovers have had consecutive successes recently even if the performances have not been consistently good, but how many teams in this league are consistently good? Walsall have been well beaten and suddenly look vulnerable and their slippage supports a view that finding consistent success at this level amongst the current participants is near impossible. On that basis you might conclude that Rovers don’t have to be all that good to successfully escape.

So perhaps Chesterfield will find inspiration in the local derby atmosphere (as they often have in the past against us) and turn on what passes as magic in this lowly league, but maybe we are a stronger more fluent force with our added youthful strength and at last we’ll have some attractive football to entertain us in the run in.

I’ll say a 1-2 win (Ironside, Molyneux)

What went wrong there! We're they saving themselves for Monday or what?

Two of the goals were directly the result of players slipping on the greasy surface - the first (TSL) and the 5th (JMcG). Another 2 were because the scorers showed far superior individual skill than our defenders could muster.

Rovers missed their opportunities and it exposed their weaknesses. We lack enough really gifted individuals and it will show up if we do manage to get into L1.

It illustrates what I have felt a lot this season; winning without a great deal of entertaining football.

I felt the score somewhat flattered Chesterfield, as Donaldo said, two slips on the turf caused two goals. However, I did think it was just about TS-L's worst game for us. He seems to have lost a little bit of confidence when he was so dominant in the air. His positioning for the cross that led to the second (I think) goal was a little dubious, and resulted in an easy tap in.
We really should have been level or in front at half time, and I really thought we would come out all guns blazing and take the game.
What is going to happen on Monday??? we will either get slaughtered, or beat all odds, and sneak a win!
