Highlandwhite Matchday Thread ================================================

Kick off Wednesday 7.45pm. No live feeds

Welcome to matchday 31 and potentially tough game away at the club now called Frank Lampards Coventry by the Media.

Team News
Leeds
Only the usual absentee which is a remarkable stat bearing in mind the number of games we play

Frank Lampards Coventry
Ben Sheaf missing and injury concerns with the two leading scorers Haji Wright and Ephron Mason-Clark. Matt Grimes will make his debut following his recent move from Swansea

Similar to Cardiff (before Saturday) FLC are on a great run with four straight league wins and only 3 points off the coveted 6th place.

Reading the articles they are supremely confident of taking points from us but we're frightened of no team especially one that plays an attacking line up. Going 2.1 with Solomon and James causing carnage.

line ups.

Can we go Live once again please Admin

Yep - keep playing like this and the drearies will have to take up another hobby.

Great result. Should have buried them but for some crap finishing and good keeping. Just one of those days in front of goal I think.

Glad Meslier didn’t let our second goal in. He would be toast today!

Millwall next. Surely a start for Joseph, Willy and Largie? Rothwell back with Wober or Strujik? Maybe Schmitt and Byram?

Not bothered if we go out tbh. League is getting business end now and we need everyone on song and fit. Good to keep the momentum going though. Confidence is paramount.

And Meslier made 2 impressive saves so fares fare I've knocked his abilities but he appears to be holding his own keeping his concentration levels high and that's all anyone can ask so credit tonight to our keeper doing excellent keeper things.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m only guessing, but I think Farke will have told Mes he is in the last chance saloon, any more lack of concentration and he’s out of the team. He’s played well since the Hull debacle.

---------------------------------

Maid, in all honesty, I can't see Farke giving ultimatums like that. Think he;s more the man manager type, arm around him, 'keep her head up, we're guna win the league' sort of thing.

I would much prefer that, teams winning leagues must have decent players, but also have unity, not sure its a great move telling your keeper 'one more mistake and you;re out pal'

I see Frankie boy held up 4 fingers on one hand and two on the other in reply to the stick Leeds fans were giving him...cheeky monkey!

Macs I missed the game and the highlights I saw didn't cover this..

love stuff like this.. as much as it was annoying at the time, Frank Lampard pretending to cry in the dressing room after Derby beat us in the play semi's, in response to stop crying frank lampard - meh, I'll give yer that Frank

If you give stick you'll get it back (it's how I'd expect it) ...... no issue at all with him winding us up in return, good on him ....

Various extracts from a Coventry forum:

Tbh I just decided to do a spot check of some of Leeds results, wins, draws, losses, inspired by @shmmeee checking out their defeats yesterday.
In all honesty the stats against us pretty much marry up to their stats all season. They have way more shots and more possession than the opposition, always. In fact we managed more passes and possession than many. Even the games they haven't won seem to be because they aren't clinical enough, which was evident last night.
Best team in the league by a country mile.

Trying to think of the last side I saw in the Championship as good as these.

People talking about formation changes based on last night, get a grip. Last night told us nothing other than we're miles away from Leeds in every department as are most other teams in this league.

That team, on that showing, is streets ahead of last season.
They had some great players last season, but as a team unit they looked far more effective last night.

Agree. They also look in a different class to the three promoted teams of last season.Really impressive defensive shape and flood players forward when they attack.

That Leeds front line is possibly the best I've ever seen at the CBS, their speed, finesse and skill was utterly terrifying and if I wasn't so miserable I'd find it funny that the assistant refs couldn't keep up with them. Only their profligacy and Dovin stopped the final score from being utterly embarrassing.

Sometimes I do think you just have to hold your hands up and say that the other team is just operating at a far higher level, I was happy to see us playing more positively in the second half but even then we didn't really give them anything they couldn't handle and it left our back line horribly exposed.

Nice to read!

I have to confess Spanish and probably will need to say a few Hail Mary's but I've always had a soft spot for our old nemesis Frank Lampard...I really wished we'd have signed him at the time he was at his playing peak, amazing player, but Seth Johnson was the chosen one and like a sliding doors moment things eventually went pear shaped for the club but I suppose it's been character building for us all to go on such a wild trip but it's looking like the EPL adventure awaits us next season so hopefully we won't be up against Frank Lampard's Coventry City for a good while which I bet deep down he is itching to play us again asap...he loves us just as much 😂

Wow that's a great read WestCliff and probably I'm guilty of being too critical at times especially of Farke but those comments would suggest we might be witnessing the evolution of not just a great Championship side but a Leeds team that will develop into an established EPL side and with Farke too at the helm so I definitely have to hold my hands up and say most humbly DF you are definitely proving me wrong...respect.

The other side of the story is always interesting, be it positive or negative. I read this and don't want to look back in the next year or two having not enjoyed this season to the fullest.

Each week that passes, I have more hope that we will not find a way to mess it up this time around.

If we watched every other team in the Championship, week in, week out, no doubt we would be far more proud and less critical of what we have ourselves.

The thing is, it is mind games. Until promotion is secured, my mind will be telling me that something is going to go wrong. I am also feeling, the nearer we get to the end of the season, that all the games look far more difficult than in reality they should be, given what is at our disposal compared to the tools of the other teams.

MOT.
