Rio Ferdinand seemingly thinks so. He says he’s never seen a 17 year old dominate in the way Yamal is and I may have to agree. For Barca and his national side he’s been world class and that’s not even an exaggeration.
Brazilian Ronaldo was the closest I’ve seen in terms of young talent but I think he was 18 when doing his thing.
Any better 17 year olds you guys have seen do what Yamal is doing? And how good could he get?

Doubt many on here would have seen Pele at 17
Norman Whiteside was pretty damn decent as was Michael Owen. Pretty sure he was 17 when he debuted for Liverpool.

No player before or since has scored a world cup semi final hat-trick and two goals in the final. Let alone a 17 year old.

I recently watched an old video of me playing in a decent under 12 cup final from 1984. Given we had a good team, the standard compared to today's football was nowhere near as good.
I know it was boys Football but if you use that as a yardstick, players are not much better.

Football is faster now. But that doesn't make it better. There were some fantastic footballers 30/40/50/60 years back.

Tbf Sandy, players these days are much better on the ball. Again, in general. Maradona was a one off in the 80's but would not stick out as much now

There was but these days being an athlete is the fundamental criteria with the faster the better. Anything else can be coachable or gained by practice though guys like Werner do their best to refute that but it underlines why so many have persevered with him.
Back in the day hatchet men and dribbling wingers could thrive more.

I would take George Best and Jimmy Greaves over any current Prem players, and that includes any drinking problem both had. Both were sheer genius. Made the game look easy.
