Portsmouth 2 - 2 Derby County

PORTSMOUTH v DERBY COUNTY Championship #42

1500 12th April 2025, Fratton Park Portsmouth

After the devastation of not winning against the top of the league team on Tuesday, we start our winning run again - hopefully - on Saturday v Portsmouth

The game on Tuesday was a masterclass (sort of) in controlling a game and making sure we didn't lose or win but share the spoils and really, no complaints.

Portsmouth will have been very upset with the result v Coventry - a winning goal four minutes into injury time and then Coventry are in a play-off position. Be interesting to see how the team react on Saturday.

There is a wave of expectation running with the faithful currently - win on Saturday (sssshhh!) and we overhaul Portsmouth.

Just a 'performance' (and win) will do - away end sold out - again - it will be noisy - hope we can be noisier.

And just for your delectation, here is the MT from the same fixture last year:

A 5-0 win for our Academy with Pieters and Waghorn selected. We also had two trialists playing Trialist A and Trialist B. Trialist A scored with a header in the game. The win ensures we remain top of the league.

CBT also back with Eustace indicating he might be in contention for game time.

If anyone is aware who the trialists are I'd be interested to know.

Watched highlights of U21s and wondered if Waggy was playing with Washington and some other unknowns. No commentary and no shirt names did not help. Did not spot CBT but what a boost he could make as a late sub in games!

Re possible points deduction for Pompey I read post-game comments of mutual respect from both sets of fans but during the game I was sickened by the abuse some of our players were getting from some pitch-side "supporters" - directed against Fozzie, Harness and Wilson in particular. To their credit it did not seem to bother them. It could be that this sort of thing happens in most away games but to me it is totally unacceptable and I hope our fans don't do likewise home or away.

Rumours swirling that Zetterström might be out for the rest of the season. 🫣

PW joins.......not Rotherham!

MK Dons. If it's mentioned earlier, I missed it.

PW didn’t but Matt Hamshaw did join Rotherham

Rumours have a strange life cycle. First they surface, then they circulate, occasionally swirling as Scouse alludes to. If they are fortunate they become rife. If less fortunate they get quashed.

Where? Nothing in the press that I can see!

The source I think is the DCFC Fans site where some claim to have a bit of inside knowledge. In this case the fan who posted it said he couldn’t name the player but there are strong hints who it is. He has also said that it is a bit like Langas’ injury in the sense that it might be something that can be managed on a game by game basis until season’s end, maybe with an injection into a shoulder or knee joint for example. Have to say it does have the ring of truth to it to me.
