Champions League or Trophy?

A lot in the media is being made out about the winners getting CL, but what’s more important for you: CL next season or the trophy?

Vote:
5 stars - CL
1 star - trophy

For me personally (and as a spurs fan) I don’t care about CL. I care about the TROPHY.

We’ve been in CL before and its great but really we are desperate for a trophy, and Europa you could argue is 3rd biggest trophy (behind CL & Prem).

I’d assume United fans care more about Champions League, and Spurs fans care more about the trophy

I think any footie fan would say a trophy. But ask the club accountant / chairman, they might answer differently........

Losing a Cup Final is a terrible feeling for a football supporter and a football player. So, first things first, wiining the game in glorious style on the night and parading about with the silverware afterwards is what 21st May will be all about.

Secondly the winner gets in the CL. Its alright saying that doesnt matter its the winning on the night for me... but, it does and will matter for both clubs and it will make a huge difference for both clubs next season on and off the pitch. (Reminds me of those ans who insist that international football is rubbish and who cares, about qualifying, its all rubbish and the CL is the king.... and I support United not England, blah blah blah...until the WC and EC turn up every couple of years and they want to be part of it like everybody else in the entire country).

As it happens with this one you cant separate the two outcomes. Both will happen for the one winner no matter what. So c'mon United

Generally trophy but I do think this season is slightly different in that the financial mess we're in the money CL football can bring will give us a much needed cash boost to improve our squad in the summer. But saying that we've had tons of money in recent years and sp-nked it all up the wall so not sure why we're likely to do anything different this summer.

For Spurs who are financially more stable and haven't won a single trophy for 17 years winning it is definitely more important.

We heard similar things when clubs were going for 4th and a cup at the same time and that 4th was supposedly better when I've always felt winning a cup is far more memorable and what fans care about.

I think the trophy. But in our current mess, CL qualification and the money it will bring in is hugely important for us at this moment in time. It could mean the difference of 2 quality signings (although we will probably sign the wrong players).

On the wider subject of whether the EL winners should get a CL spot, I am all for it. The trophy has been massively devalued over the years by the CL. Granting the winners CL qualification has brought some of the trophy's value back and made it worthwhile winning.

I know some feel that the next in line in the PL table should get the spot, but why should they? Getting into the CL for finishing 5/6th just doesn't seem right to me. I'd much rather see a team that has actually won something get that spot.

Yeah the thing is i remember before they added the rule, everyone was clamouring for it to be introduced, on the basis that by winning the europa, you are essentially the best of the second tier comp and therefore should be allowed to try in the premier comp.

It also creates more incentive like you say for teams to try and win the europa.

As a side note, the complaint about the CL dropouts being removed: i also remember fans complaining about that and saying that the dropouts devalued the competition. Now they are saying that the comp is devalued because there are no dropouts. Wtf?

Not to mention that the dropouts very rarely ever won the comp. Lets not forget that the 3rd & 4th seed CL teams were/are often garbage.

Conclusion: fans and pundits will always complain, especially when united/spurs are involved.

Trophy is what the fans should want

CL is what levy wants

A trophy helps you forget this season ever happened. The loser will be reminded of it for the next 10 years.

In this spell on unbearable shiiitness we have to keep the trophy haul going to not get left behind by the dippers.

Both clubs have had their ups and downs but always retained an ability to stick a trophy in the cabinet while doing so, the trophy therefore is king and on this occasion throws in the champions league for good measure.
