Just put myself through watching the game again this afternoon. Not sure why really!
As disappointing as it was to lose last night I actually don't think we were awful. We created quite a few chances and lost to a very scrappy goal.
Had we taken one of those chances then the narrative today would be much different IMO. That's why we need to add a goalscorer to the team. A proper CF can hide a lot of sins.
That game last night summed the season up really. Not awful but not good either. It's all very vanilla and beige at present and we need the spark that goals can bring.
I'll make a bold prediction here though. If we do get a goalscorer we're right in the top 4 mix next season. I don't think it's as doom and gloom as some people think. A proper Summer and a reset of sorts trimming the squad and we'll be much better next season IMO.
We're not awful

I thought we were decently the better team yesterday but just couldn’t muster the required quality in the final third to make it count. Our inability to score goals has left us vulnerable to a single moment in games and so it was again last night.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Genuinely curious if I am just seeing things that are there during our games but last night, around 15 separate times, we had 5 sometimes 6 players stood literally in a horizontal line.
Dorgu, Bruno, zirkzee, Amad, nacho and a couple times dalot, with one of our CBs with the ball, not knowing what to do with it because everyone in front is stood in a line, not moving.
If this is what people are classing as "decent" or us playing well, then lol.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said we were decently the better team. I did not say we played well on the night. You seem to have some challenges with understanding words properly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we weren't the better team though. Are you just looking at the stats and coming to that conclusion?
Also who uses phrases like "decently the better team".

Everyone accepted we were the better team and created much more chances than our opponents. We just couldn't convert. How many times have we said that?
The opposition scored on the flimsiest of chances multiplied by the normal failures of our "best and most experienced" defenders and keeper. Familiar?
People have no idea how bad the players are? They are depressing. They were all good when they came, show some glimpses of Thier past ability but on a weekly basis we cannot rely on them to give you at least a 7/10 performance day in day out.
But they are players who are good AND EXPERIENCED!!! Good professional even! No one trains harder, better than talented experienced players but in reality they are all on their plateaus. One or two good games leads to the "form is temporary, class is permanent" mantra. That mantra is really the problem every manager faces. Which is why we are still starting Maguire, Casemiro, Mount, Shaw and even your favourite Bruno. It's why we play Maz, Dalot, Hojlund and Onana because they are by far the most experienced "younger" players. In reality they are all has-beens in the most jaded phases of their career. That have played 6 years of average with the odd cups wins making them think they are close.
This "problem" will decieve most managers. You can never believe those players are not good enough but their mindset, and real ability is covered by their "experience". Unless we are done with half these players by September, no manager In the world is going to get a result.

Being the better team is debatable really.
Both teams were absolutely f✓cking sh!t. Spurs did not need to defend well to stop us from scoring. We had no idea what to do when we had the ball. It was pathetic.
The cross spurs put in for their goal was probably the best cross of the night. Pace, spin, power, into a dangerous area.

Before the game I really thought United would win, mainly because Spurs have been really bad this year. It turned out to be a clash of 2 managers, each with a rep for playing a system and refusing to deviate from it. But - unexpectedly - Spurs dropped Ange ball and parked the bus. Whereas Ruben pressed on with 3421. The rest is history. Before the game I thought Ange would be sacked at the end of the season. After the game I thought they both deserved the boot.

If we forget the result for one sec, we were probably marginally the better team, made to look more so because we were chasing the game 2nd half and doing most of the attacking while Spurs sat back. Whether this was a deliberate act by Spurs, just the circumstances of the game (prob a mixture of both) I don't think it was down to any great tactical prowess by either manager.
Overall feeling is that both teams were poor, both the manner of the goal and quality of the game reflected where both teams are at. No outstanding individual performances from either side.
In this single game, Amorim's substitutions felt a bit late and uninspiring, and as the manager, he takes full responsibility - but it was just like most of our other EPL games this season, ending in disappointment.
But the result is Spurs won, and in a final, nothing else matters.

In answer to the OP, I felt we were pretty poor in the final, to not be able to score against an equally poor Spurs side just sums us up, so we deserved nothing. Can't say I share the optimism for next season - I would be quite content if we can just show more consistency (in a good way) and see where it takes us

Their keeper made 3 saves Onana has made maybe 3 times this year? Thier defender was making the best clearance of the season? Ange was playing Mourinho pro max that would have made his inter team blush.
I know people like making it seem we were not creating chances but in reality, we just didn't have people taking it. The amount of chances we created is "limited" because the spurs did didly.
Yet Onana, Shaw, Bruno, Mount will be starting next year again. I know everyone lives moaning about managers but the failures of our players and "lack of luck" is multiplying. They are cursed and need to be gone.

It was an awful final contested by two truly horrible football teams.
