24/25 comes to it's mediocre conclusion on Sunday and whilst there is little but pride (and the little matter of about £6m in merit payments) for Wolves to play for, there is still a goal in site for the Bees. If they win and Brighton lose they will finish in 8th which could qualify them for the Europa Conference league next season. However a number of things need to fall in to place for them, firstly Chelsea need to win this seasons Conference league in the final against Betis next week. Then it gets a bit complicated:
1. Chelsea finish seventh. This would happen if they lose at Forest and Villa get at least a draw at Man Utd. So the Conference league place earned by Newcastle (as they will have qualified for either Champions league or Europa League) now would go to 7th, but if Chelsea finish 7th and have qualified for Europa League, the Conference league spot goes down to 8th .
2. Chelsea finish sixth and Newcastle finish seventh. This would happen if Chelsea lose at Forest, Villa get at least a draw at Man Utd AND Newcastle lose at home to Everton by three more goals than Chelsea lose at Forest, so they fall below Chelsea on goal difference. So Newcastle get the Europa place for finishing 6th, Chelsea get a Europa place for winning the Conference league and again the Conference league spot goes to 8th.
In both scenarios there will then be 10 PL teams playing in Europe, top 8 plus Palace (Europa) and Spurs(CL).
However Brighton are at home to Spurs so most likely all of the above is academic for Brentford. But never say I don't keep you informed.
Will be the last time we'll see some of our lot, Cunha and Semedo for sure, Sarabia probably, Guedes possibly. Semedo is a shame, he has matured in to a pretty decent player and a good captain but the others just need to move and create space in the squad for quality 🤞 replacements.
I hope there is motivation to put on a good finale but it doesn't seem likely and Brentford are better than us right now for sure. 1-3.... unless Brighton get a couple of early goals.

In his press conference today VP confirmed that Johnstone and Doyle will not be fit to play on Sunday. Guess that means they have both played their last games for the club. Only other doubt is Strand Larsen who will be assessed on Saturday

No chance of a win here, hopefully make a fist of.
Agree with Goldie, 1-3.

we will miss Semedo hugely if he goes

Never been a big fan of Semedo personally, decent but doesn't excel at anything, beaten far far too often, regular brain farts. next to zero in the final third. He is great around the half way line though.

Cinci, I think most on here spotted your views on Semedo a while ago. To be fair, until about a year ago I would have agreed, but this season I think he has improved quite a lot, particularly in the final third.
If he leaves, I don't think it would be impossible to get a better defender but as he doesn't really play as a fullback, replacing him won't be that easy. If RAN also goes continuing to play with wingbacks will need some thought, or some spending.

Semedo's defending has improved a lot over the last couple of seasons, think we can genuinely thank GON for that. But it's fair to say that despite playing in that RB/RWB position defending is not the strongest part of his game. He has been very important in getting us up the field though and winning the ball in the middle third. An important player for me who will be missed.

Just read this from Keiran Maguire on X, interesting, I wasnt aware that clubs only get 2 seasons of parachute payments if they relegated in their first season. Does make sense though.
It won’t just be the fans of Sunderland and Sheffield United with an interest in the Championship Playoff final today, Premier League clubs have a vested interest too.
Under Premier League rules, clubs are entitled to three years of Parachute Payments when they are relegated to the Championship, although this is restricted to two years if they had previously been promoted and were immediately relegated.
The parachute payments are calculated as being 55%, 45% and 20% respectively of the equal share elements of the Premier League distribution to its member clubs.
This works out as £48m, £39m and £17m for the relegated clubs over a three year period.
If a relegated club is then immediately promoted, then the parachute payments it was due to receive are retained by the Premier League and given to its own clubs.
Burnley and Leeds United have already been promoted to the Premier League which saves the Premier League £39m and £17m in 2025/26.
If Sheffield United are promoted in the playoffs at the weekend this will be a further £39m.
This could result in a total of £95 million coming back to the Premier League.
Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton were relegated in 2024/25 having been promoted the previous season.
This means that the Premier League will definitely not have to pay parachute payments in the third year, resulting in a further benefit to Premier League clubs of £51 million (3 x £17m).
This could take the parachute payments benefit to existing PL clubs to £146 million.
It’s the most valuable match in world football not just for the two clubs competing at Wembley, who can be £190m better off for winning.
