Onana has to go. Absolute crap.

Agreed on that, he's had 2 seasons. The errors won't miraculously vanish.

Yeah Onana has to be replaced.

But you're also giving up on these players far too quickly and as we see time and time again, when we move on players they usually perform far better. Maybe we need to look into how we can actually get a tune out of what we have rather than just discard them as the first hurdle.

I'm not claiming they're all great signings, just that we need to be realistic with our current situation and how most players are going to perform because of that.

Zirkee was never bought for his goals, that's not his fault, he's a striker who brings others into attacks with his clever touch and technique. He was the Young Player of the Year in Italy a year ago and any kid moving to another country espcially in the state our club is in is going to struggle. He started very poorly largely because he was being used wrong, under Amorim playing deeper he's more involved and some of our attacks looks decent with him there. I'm not saying I'm against moving him on if we got a good price (sounds like both Inter and Juve are interested), I'm just saying we need to be realistic and patient with some of these otherwise we're going nowhere.

Ugarte was never bought to play as a ball playing CM, he's a work horse who will put a shift in and if combined with a CM that compliments his skillset can be of use.

I still think it's far too early to judge Dorgu, thrown into the starting lineup while we were losing nearly every game mid season with no pre season for us, playing in a new country and he's only 20! I know he hasn't shown much but lets see what he can do when he's actually settled. I don't really see the Malacia comparisons either, Dorgu is clearly a stronger, faster and more physcial player which is important for the wing back role. Hopefully he can develop (remember he's only 20) and improve on his offensive game.

We need to be realistic, we can't move on the entire squad and buy a whole new one. We are going to have to give some of these players time and with Zirkzee, Ugarte, de Ligt and Dorgu you have players all in their early 20s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a superb post and captures my views perfectly. Too early to write any of the new signings off.

I've seen good things about Zrikzee and Dorgu. Way too young to be written off and you have to consider the situations they've found themselves in.

New country, team mates, upheaval, etc.

I actually think Dorgu may be better in the back 3 with Leon playing the Wingback role. Bit more pace in his game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not too early at all. Zirkzee has had a full season in the PL and scored 3 goals and got 1 assist.

If you think that's because he's not an out and out striker and plays deeper then why isn't he chipping in with loads of assists to compensate for lack of goals?

He's also very slow which isn't helpful in the quickest league in the world.

Our fans just constantly show they don't get it. Zirkzee being written off is specific to United and the PL. Nobody is writing him off as a player for another club. I can see why he had more success in Italy. He's far more suited to that slower style of game.

As for Dorgu.....I can only go off my gut instinct and my gut is telling me he's just not good enough. Nobody can disprove that either at this stage. It's just a feeling you get. Don't think his final ball and decision making is anything like what is required to make a top LWB. I hope he proves me wrong but I genuinely don't see it.

Our priority this season should be selling Hojlund and Onana.

I honestly think we’d do better next season without those two even if we didn’t sign anyone.

I suppose Cunha going is the end of Garnacho. Not particularly happy about that - suspect it’ll be one we regret.

These players we are being linked to. My god. We are deep into our Voronin and Babbel era.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sell Garnacho because his end product has been diabolical and sign Cunha because he should contribute significantly to the bottom line.

Then watch Cunha bomb next season figures-wise (before checking and discovering that he was the PL player who exceeded his xG by the most goals in 2024/5) and Garnacho rack up 30 G+A for Chelsea next season.

My post was in jest, but yes, Cunha has (massively) outperformed his xG this season primarily because he’s scored several from range.

Our shooting from range is non existent these days so it'll be good to have someone decent at it.
