Favourite Players

It's a no news, bar the first signing of the season, June week. Looking forward to more new arrivals in the coming weeks. Excitement for a new season brewing nicely.

Another thread had a chat about historic players for the club. Got me thinking who my favourite players were that wore our shirt.

For me the 10 that stick out the most, through watching both live and on TV were;

1. Peter Lorimer - his explosive shooting was magical and drew me in.

2. Tony Currie - just seemed a bit a of a genius to a young kid watching on.

3. Olli Dacourt - thought he was a Rolls Royce of a player.

4. Rocky Rocastle - as above.

5. David Batty - got stuck in, a real no messing but talented player

6. Gary Speed - pure skill

7. Lucas - football with a smile

8. Mark Viduka - wish we had him for the coming season

9. Pablo - pure skill, made the team tick.

10. Raphinia - what wasn't to love about his ability.

Not posting this to say the above are/aren't the best - it's my memories and my thoughts. They're players, i'm sure i've missed some, that I remember fondly. You'll have some you think are more important to you - but these are mine.

My list would make me look very young, probably. You're all picking from different eras!

Frazer Richardson was the first player I latched onto. Always had a soft spot for Neil Kilkenny, ever since watching him pull Robbie Savage's ponytail. Liam Cooper, obviously. Andrew Hughes was just like me, played wherever he was needed! Robert Snodgrass could have taken on the world if he had the slightest shred of pace. Mateusz Klich for both the screamers and the sh!thousing.

Duncan McKenzie certainly could jump over a Mini.

I watched him do it at the side of the pitch at ER, just by where the benches are now, at half-time in Paul Reaney's testimonial - circa 1976/7?

Cracking game that ended 5-4 to Reaney's side. But I only remember the score and Duncan McK jumping the Mini!

Lubo .... I posted this for a bit of fun and your view of the players who you rate is equally valid. Actually like a few of those you included, Coops for sure I admire and valued him while he played for us.

It was more about the players that meant something to us as individuals, not a who's the greatest players of all time parade.....

Ooooh favourite players? Wow, difficult one tbh. Would have to revert to the 3 top-flight winning teams (1969 ; 1974 ; 1992) … but from recent-ish times, yep, Coops, Pablo, Beckford deserve a mention👍.

agree... Beckford up there as a fan favourite..

one of mine too tbf whilst he was playing - my opinion of him these days, has nothing to do with when he actually "wore the shirt bruv"

I do think he milks this 'Leeds fan' thing tho.. find it all a bit cringy.. doesn;t take away the fact that he lead the line during a very drk time for us, got some important goals, and of course the old trafford goal.

Not sure I find Becks cringy, I just think he really likes the club and fanbase.

Think it was when he was at Preston and the kop were singing you're Leeds and you know you are - he interacted too much and got subbed! Totally distracted him and clearly a large part of the fanbase lauded him.

Pablo - name for the new dog that we're getting ... got to be ......

VOF, Totally realise its against the grain with Beckford...

its just when I watch him on TV, he speaks like he played for us years, or a Leeds lad himself..

for me, comes across as a bit a9r se kissy..

where as if KP, Alan Smith, were sat there giving it 'I'm the Leeds fan', I'd take to that more

Get that mate .... we all have our own takes on players past and present. I sort of actually do get what you mean, it can be a bit over the top when I watch him. Still prefer him to that spitting scouser on Sky ......

Alan Smith? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Personally love Beckford. Never seen a player so clearly not want to play against Leeds. The time he got subbed at half-time he went even higher in my estimations.

Love the bloke. And how good would it be to turn schum over again on the day named in his honour.
