Firpo

Officially leaving. I guess we all knew but it’s now official.

Good luck to him. He had a great last season with us.

Will go down as a cult hero for me

-------------------------------

bit of stretch that Lubes..

we give 'cult hero' tag out to far too many players, far too easily.

Firpo was brilliant last season, but come on, he was in the championship and for one reason or another he failed with us in the premier league (like so many did).

plenty of fans wanted him gone... and I read on here a few times even last season that we still needed a LB.

played great last season... but can think of a tonne of players who deserve that cult hero tag more than him.

I like the player, always have done, maybe because he was a Bielsa signing who we got from Barcelona.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy Hughes is a cult hero and Firpo is definitely a much better player than he was.

I can see Firpo being a cult hero for a lot of fans.

It's about the story and the bloke as well as the player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cult heroes are less about what they accomplished or did and more about what they represent. Firpo went from beneath the floor level to being arguably the face of our promotion, scoring a season-defining goal, turning a chant of mockery into a chant of power.

He's exactly what a cult hero should be. In the same way Hughes was never thr best player but earned the fans respect through application and versatility, always giving what he could for the shirt, wherever he was asked to play.

hmm, points understood... but its a personal thing a cult hero, Firpo not for me..

for me, cult hero's are those players that have been through the mill with us... I think Firpo has had easy in comparison.

Jemaine Beckford for example, with us in the very very dark days.

Carl Shutt, another one, not the best player in the world but scored an equally important goal.

Firpo doesn;t qualify for me

get this, but was about the team as whole IMO.. Firpo played his part.. but never a cult hero for me

I think also, a cult hero is somebody that lives in the memories sometimes..

as much as I like Firpo, are we really going to remember him that fondly in say 20 years time?

how many years with us?, how many good seasons?

Always a good footballer, wrongly slaughtered by some because he's not a LB
However I will probably forget about him in a few days and not worth big wages.

this, Promo, and that;s my point.. cult hero's aren't forgotten about as easily as that.

good footballer, had his problems, turned it round, but a massive stretch to give him the title of 'cult hero' IMO.

Spanish … Carl Shutt … really? Genuine question as I wouldn’t put him anywhere near cult hero status … but then again (and I agree with you), it’s a very personally-attributed accolade👍.

I think its the era ref Carl Shutt and cult hero for me, again its all personal...

I fondly remember his goal vs Stuggart in the replay, he scored last minute and remember going utterly wild.
