Evening Reds
just read this:
https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/06/liverpool-must-take-decisive-action-should-real-madrid-pursue-ibrahima-konate/
and ive thought and agreed with this for a long time. Following Madrids continual harvesting of top talent for free, i began to think the rules had been changed already; that clubs could approach players and ask if they would be interested.
We all remember what happened to us in the VVD pursuit. Dont get me wrong, im not naive enough to believe this stuff doesnt happen. But surely someone in power has noticed RMs activity?! Soooo many free transfers?!
Im just irritated that, as the article suggests, that they appear to act as if theyre untouchable and can do whatever they like. I know theyre Madrid and seem to get another CL trophy every other season. which of course a top player would love to play for. But.......its suspicious!
Or is it just me?

You just cottoned on
Been saying g this for ages and everyone knows this is madrid tactic.
They will also dp sawm.with saliva at arsenal if he has not signed a contract.
As soon as konate said last dec he didnt sign the offered co tract it was obvious what was happening.
Lfc should imo sell him now if wr can get two other cb in

Hardly headline news is it? Anyone with half a brain could see at least 18 months ago what Trent was going to do and where he was going to end up.
At the end of the day Trent signed a contract and fulfilled his obligations. Liverpool have no-one to blame for the fact he left on a free but themselves.

Clubs need to start dropping players. They can phone it in, be a pain in the arrse in training etc. See how valuable they are with no games for an entire season, not getting picked for their country cos they're not fit etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How would that have helped Liverpool? His value isn't of any importance as he was leaning on a free anyway. Real would be happy as it means he has less miles on the clock. Meanwhile Liverpool are losing a useful player and paying his wages.

I'd be stunned if most clubs dont do similar with players the world over? Is it right? I don't feel it is but almost impossible to stop entirely I'd imagine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It will happen everywhere to some extent. But Real have a bigger pull than everyone else and they know it. So they make full use of that power, making it more obvious.

Whilst club to player contact re a transfer is prohibited without the parent clubs permission, the FA / UEFA / FIFA can't prevent interested clubs from sounding out the player, via his representatives.

Or through the media as Real often do.

if we dont like it we're gna have to stop doing it ourselves and come up with a solution like offering 10 year contracts like Chelsea do.

Absolutely, huge club, always competing for honours, great city and weather, tough to resist I'd imagine.

How can you sell him if wants to sit his contract out and go to Madrid?
The player has all the power now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep.
If a player wants to go to Real, nobody can make him go anywhere else, regardless of how much money another club may offer for him.
He simply doesn’t agree personal terms with anyone else.
Amazes me how often you hear/read people saying “he either signs a new contract or we sell him to the highest bidder”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The player has a lot of power, but doesn't have all the power.
We could sign Guehi and play him next to VVD every game.
See what that does for Konate chances to be starting CB for France at the world cup next summer.
The problem is we are too nice as a club IMO. I would sign a CB and bench Konate nearly all season. That will stop other players from trying to fack with us in future.
The club must put itself first IMO. That's what the players are doing so the club should do it too.

This is what I said on your transfer thread, and I was told I was wrong to think along those lines.

I think there nothing that can really stop informal discussions
Certain super agents manage a lot of players and have regular comms with every big club - bringing up a player you want to check the situation on would be easy
