Mbeumo alternatives

Some people have argued that Mbeumo, though good, takes up too much of our budget to justify the signing, especially for a player who will be in his 30s by the end of his contract. As negotiations with Brentford continue, it seems as though United's leadership see a ceiling on what would look like a financially responsible deal.

Many argue that we should be prioritising other positions anyway: spend that money on a striker / a CM; play Bruno as a 10 or use Amad in that left attacking slot. These are reasonable arguments. But if we work on the assumption that the club intends to use Amad primarily as a wing back, and wants a left-footed player in the R10 role, what alternatives could United explore? Maybe there's a cheaper player available. Maybe a player who isn't at Mbeumo's level yet but has potential to get a lot better? If nothing else, exploring other deals might cause Brentford to be a bit more flexible in their own valuation.

I haven't watched a ton of the following players, but here are some young, left-footed attackers:

Tyler Dibling - breakout season at relegated Southampton.
Ethan Nwaneri - impressive season at Arsenal... no hint that he's leaving, but the signing of Madueke suggests he might not get many minutes next season.
James McAtee - started ahead of Nwaneri in England's title-winning U21s campaign. We could take advantage of our close, neighbourly relationship with City, who are traditionally a selling club.

Any thoughts on the above, and/or better suggestions?

What I do like about the Mbeumo deal is that none of these journos have a clue whats going on until a bid has gone in.

Probes what we all knew all along, Eriksen was the leak.

Oh, I thought it was Evans.

Mbeumo alternative? Maybe Eze.

One player I’ve always liked and it would never happen now, is Bowen. He’s wasting it at West Ham, should be at a CL club tbf but certainly a bigger team than them. Thought he’d be one Spurs/Chelsea tried for this year.

Very good player. We signed Dan James when Bowen was a similar age & price. Genius as usual.

The classic United mistake. That being said, Dan James is still performing at the championship. Simple stat analysis show it. I dare say in a formation like this he will perform brilliantly (as a wing back)

I'm pretty sure none of us were saying at the time to sign Jarrod Bowen but comparing numbers was surely the smart signing was Bowen if were shopping in the Championship.

James seems to be one of these players that looks excellent in the Championship but can't quite cut it at PL level and he's had a shot with 3 different clubs now.

We'll see how it goes for him this season.

How about Wissa? Half the price of Mbuembo, can play up front, has pace, can finish.

Forest bid for him yesterday, Brentford want 50 million. Not sure he's worth that.

Eze plays off of the left which is where Cunha will play so despite being a good player, it wouldn't be him!

BBC gossip page today:

Nottingham Forest are weighing up a bid worth £25m plus add-ons for England Under-21 attacking midfielder James McAtee but Manchester City value the 22-year-old at closer to £40m. (Mail)
