A few of us go back to the days of the old BBC606
fan forum. When that ceased to exist a few options
popped up that meant we could migrate over and
continue the craic. I followed the wonderful and sadly
missed 'harj' over to Ja606. May 24, 2011.
In all, I've been an avid reader and poster for a while.
I've always said, ja (and the Beeb OG) were like the
pre-game/match pub. A place to catch up with other
fans who for whatever reason, could not attend the
matches in person. Above all, it was some light relief
and a great way to enjoy being a fan.
Somewhere along the way, it all changed. There was
always the odd poster who stirred things up (Original
Koppite and Bluememe were the kings of that). But,
we still had a laugh.
For me at least, it doesn't feel that way anymore.
Honestly, it now feels like every other social platform:
Toxic.
A battleground of views. Where no-one wins. And even
when there's common ground, it still somehow devolves
into handbag fights. It's caused quite a few good posters
to leave and not return.
It might just be me who thinks this. Hell, I might be the
problem. And I hold my hand up that I may well be. If true,
I might be ready to extricate myself for the good of the whole.
Life's too short as they say.
Must admit, I miss the days where harj would crack
me up with some daft thought or line. I also miss the
absolute joy and kindness of High. And Mike getting
into it with LIW. All light hearted between the two.
Now I'm trying to figure out if it's just a sign of the times?
Probably is. World seems so damn angry. I doubt
Ja's going to change back to what it once was.
Which is a shame. It used to be a bloody good laugh.

Kammy, I don't actually disagree entirely with this... but, I do think its a little weird you keep bringing him up.. the phrase 'rent free' springs to mind
what you, (we all) could do with remembering, is on here, is only a portion of somebody's personality, and when written down for all to read, its easy to assume things.
for example, nobody seriously thinks the Donn walks about super depressed all day, nah, its when he speaks about football, we all know that old fella, victor meldew type... sat in a working mans club, totally fine with his pint of John Smiths, but talks football and its all doom and gloom....
I once went to Leeds vs Wimbledon with my Dad, was about 14 ish I think, we were flying away on holiday after the game, naturally in good moods... Leeds won 4 - 0... walking down the stairs from the east stand upper, marching on together being played, fans singing along as we made our way down within the crowd, gets to the 'aand we've had out ups and downs'' and I heard this old fella "yeah mainly downs"" he said .. I mean we'd just won 4-0, most people bouncing.... the Donn, reminds me of him
I don't go around laughing and joking my way through life, sure I like to banter, but serious matters in life a dealt with seriously and appropriately....

Well put Salonika.
It's okay to take a break from the platform, Batty - that's what I did when the failed run-in happened the season before last. It was all going so horribly wrong for us and I couldn't handle even participating in any sort of exchange! As we all know too well, being a Leeds fan pushes you over the line sometimes! The frequency and nature of your posts about Bamford and Farke recently seem to suggest to me at least that you may have crossed over that line yourself.
Of course, it's not just you, Batty - you are not the sole reason for any toxicity. I don't use social media and never have but from what I can gather, this platform is nothing in comparison with the toxicity on show elsewhere.
And generally. as others have said, it can sometimes get a bit personal and you have to be able to take it when someone calls you out. LIW did it to me once, when I got a bit arsey about Ben White signing for Arsenal rather than us, I believe, and it was a bit embarrassing and I had to hold up my hands and admit I was a chump, but it didn't stop me posting.
Take a break if you need to but don't stop posting forever, Batty. For what it's worth, although I think you're wrong about Bamford AND Farke (but not totally), I think the future is bright for LUFC and you should be here with us all to enjoy the good bits and moan about the bad bits.

I agree Jaz.
We live in a ‘faceless’ world these days. Those of us who grew up without mobiles and Social Media felt cajoled into participating. Gone were the days of the phone calls and endless hours face to face with our close knit groups of friends.
Suddenly, we all felt like we knew each other.
Maybe that is the problem. Overfamiliarity?
Familiarity breeds contempt…?
We become so familiar that we have lost general good manners and respect?
Just throwing a few thoughts out there.
For context…I’m giving the perspective of a 53 year old male.

I don’t see much on the thread you mention other than Promotion doing his best to wind people up with his thoughts on Gruev and his debatable football knowledge. Was he the one outed as a WUM the other week?
Yes Lubo took the bait a little but I honestly think Promotion looks to wind people up rather than enter a debate. We’ve always had one or two who seem to relish in arguments. That’s life I guess.
