A fantastic drama through the tournament, an up and down
football soap, and may I say a psychological thriller for the
whole country to watch and glorify in the ending.
Let’s get one thing straight…women are not as physically strong
as men, so what, women don’t need the brutal strength of the
mens game…it can easily stand on its own with athleticism
and skill. I hope the women’s game can keep progressing and
thriving on its present course.
I don’t think the women’s game is perfect…personally I don’t
like the way the teams often seem to copy the Premiership
model, think they’ve missed a trick there, why didn’t they
invent their own brand?!
For example: Chelsea v Arsenal or Man City v Liverpool is
the mens old fashioned brand, it’s just holding onto the
coat tails of the mens formula, let’s say “parroting".
In time maybe White Rose Phantoms v Red Rose Firestorm
would have been a better brand, just my thoughts?
Back to the England team who I think struggled at times in
their games, frequently outplayed….but their determination
when often under great pressure, to stay in the game was a
tribute, not so much to physical strength, but to their
mental strength…and in my opinion that was so evident in all
their games, apart from the one defeat.
Just a personal plea from me: would tv presenters and
commentators stop calling females “guys"…it drives me
up the wall! Why not call them “Ladies or Girls" which is what
they are!
Just Great Lionesses!!

We should never compare them to the men really. The ability and fitness gulf is massive! Even my wife has a gold medal for winning at football. I watched her play and it was comical! She keeps reminding us all that she’s the only one with a winners medal though!
But the excitement and shear will to win was fantastic this tournament. Yes they were crap at times but it’s the sign of a good team when they can still get a result.
Well done Ladies! You deserve everything you have achieved!

Don't see the point in even comparing it to the men's game. They are fundamentally different, with different skillsets required for success. What I will say is that the quality overall that I have seen in this tournament has been comfortably better than the last one, which is good to see. It's only a relatively new professional sport in the UK, so expecting it to come close to the men's game is silly, in my opinion.

The missus and I watched it yesterday because it was on. Followed the tedious and boring F1 fest, so seeing as we'd seen the semi (and enjoyed it), we decided it'd be rude to miss the final.
I thought Spain were the better side, but fair play the team battled and kept in the game well.
Remove the notion of it being the same as mens and it's an entertaining watch. Personally i find the women's tennis more entertaining than the guys, just more rallies and shots (or so it feels), not just boom and return for hours. Also shorter (3 sets) so i can concentrate/absorb easier.
Personally I just dislike the constant attempts to compare and try the one-upmanship stuff (mainly from the pundits), just enjoy it as it's own product.
Just being honest, but the only bit I don't enjoy is the commentary - Mrs V similarly dislikes (so it's not just me). Awful, but I guess will improve over time.

Some comments on the teams players:
Leah Williamson, the captain…very impressed with
her, like the female equivalent of Franz Beckenbauer!
Jessica Carter at left back…the above player and
Carter kept England in the game at crucial times.
Lauren Hemp with exceptional energy on the right
side, showed great determination and speed
Alicia Russo with a great header to level the scores
and worked her socks off, often alone to chase
upfront. Think that’s why she was subbed…so tired!
Chloe Kelly, came on fresh and gave the team
renewed energy and hope…what a wonderful delivery
she’s got from the left, she was the source of our
goals to win the tournament!
Lastly, but by no means least, the goalkeeper, those
penalty saves over the tournament.
Her kicking distribution surprised me, thought she was
brilliant…Hampton, her contribution to the tournament
victory was exceptional!

It's weird. I still hear and say 'man on' when I'm watching my daughter's games

On a similar but slightly different note, I noticed a couple of years ago the award for man of the match changed to player of the match in the “mens” game …. Really??

I assume you lodged similar criticism with the longstanding player of the month, season etc etc awards that existed. Should they be changed to Man of the Season?

Player of the match is more apt than man of them match. We can't have "woman of the match" either.

Personally don’t like ‘player of the match’ sounds ‘kin weird imo, biggest annoyance though is ‘men’s national team’ - er it’s our game, just use ‘women’s national team’ (yes I’m aware I’m coming across as slightly misogynistic 😂)
