The alternative scenario is they thought they had a chance of keeping him, made him captain and spent the season trying to negotiate and now it looks like that’s not going to happen they have to sell him for a lesser value but got a season out of him before that.

I imagine the Trent situation at Liverpool was similar. Only Liverpool tried on into his final year and got nothing…well almost, somehow they managed to get £10m for him so he could play a few games in the CWC.

I think usually

Palace owe us about 20% of the fee so may be a bit miffed at selling below 40m

Absolute shambles from Palace having to sell him so cheap. Being unreasonable with transfer fees finally caught up to them
