Remember when Ole…

…the “PE teacher" finished third in his first full season managing United, and then, after he finished second in his second season, apologised to the fans because second “isn’t good enough" for United?

Remember when Ole, who had his team playing on “vibes only" made four semi finals and a final in just two seasons, and set a PL record for 29 away games unbeaten?

Remember when “tactically clueless" and “completely out of his depth" Ole became the only manager in football to face Pep Guardiola at least four times and have more wins than defeats? Or when he used six different formations across his European campaigns, making tactical changes to contrive victories against PSG, Milan, Roma, Sociedad and Leipzig?

Remember when the JA606 United board could not wait - was proverbially, and in some cases I think probably literally, frothing at the mouth - for “Ole the fraud" to be forced out of the club?

Remember that?

Sorry you're right, think in my head they came a year after when they actually did. Let's just say signing CR fecked things then

I remember Jurgen Klopp achieving this in 2014
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the time Ole did it, Klopp had a losing record against Guardiola

Klopp didn't have a losing record against Guardiola at any point during Solskjaer's tenure as United manager...

In fact, the only time in their history that Pep has been ahead in the head-to-head v Klopp was for 24 days between 4 April 2015 and 28 April 2015.

That was two years later.

The following summer we signed Cavani, Telles, Pellistri, VdB and then Amad in January.

Three summer windows and two in January and the only midfielder signed throughout that time was Donny who wasn't really a midfielder.

Staggeringly bad squad building.

I said he was the best manager we've ever had since Fergie and I stand by it. He was a midfielder short in a style of play that the whole squad has gotten used to. We had GOALS!!! We were somehow supposed to beat City at it's prime based on literal fumes (vibes being a nice name for it).

And he was the United manager we all miss now. Earnest, player-centric. He just didn't have a good DOF.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Under him, we managed to sign a player for every position except CDM. That's his doing.

As others have said, the performances of a couple of players papered over the cracks and he played Rashford to the point of exhaustion. Once those players form started to tail off we were awful in those last few weeks and he was deservedly sacked. His managerial career since hasn’t really proved it was a bad decision.

And yet, it was better than what’s been done since Ineos took over.

Rashford was also blamed for a lot and took a lot of unfair criticism. Nice for him to be away from all that and prove United weer better off when they had him.

Actually, my bad. I should have said Klopp didn’t have a winning record against Guardiola.

They were tied in 2021 according to the above.
