For a number of years, we have felt that there was an atmosphere at the club where a number of players were causing issues with their attitude etc and the team not generally being together.
So managers would come in and try to address these issues, although there comes a point when the manager then becomes the issue.
We felt ETH would address these issues, but ultimately failed to do so, and then he started to drown and become the issue.
Amorim seems to have addressed the players issue more successfully, but now he has sadly become the problem.
Perhaps dealing with all these players has taken its toll on him, he has never looked entirely comfortable with being at a massive club - I thought he would learn and grow into it, but it seems to have affected him negatively, because he has gone into an overly stubborn mode.
The most difficult thing in management (or life) is admitting that you are wrong. Amorim seems so obsessed with making his system work, rather than getting the best out of the players, that it has clouded his judgment on this. It's a problem he won't have faced before, but he seems to see it as a sign of weakness not to change, whereas the great managers know when to tweak things and have a plan B or C up their sleeve.
I really do feel in part the job has become too big for him. Maybe he wasn't ready for everything that has happened, but it does feel too late for him to turn things around - I hope I am wrong, because I find him likeable, but he just seems to be drowning.
It's very different circumstances to ETH, but despite his efforts, he doesn't seem to be THE man.
I would just add that if he does eventually go, we do seem to have a more improved bunch of players who under the right management should be doing a lot better than what they are showing so far.
I think Amorim maybe has a handful of games to really show he has got a grasp on things, but if he just continues with the same set-up, i can't see how it can improve.

A lot of interesting points have been made. I have been a big Amorim supporter, but there are some things that are so obviously wrong.
We don't have the quality of midfielder to play the way he wants us to. This seems so important in the way he wants to play, yet no priority was given to this in the transfer market. Does this mean he thought what we had was good enough? It wasn't last season, so why would it be any different this season? Bruno is not the CM Amorim wants him to be.
This thinking seems so fundamentally flawed and it seems obvious that we need more bodies in midfield, otherwise it's just like the parting of the red sea. There may well be games where we hold our own, but we need points to get up the table and playing with this 2 man midfield with the current players isn't a sustainable way to get there.
His 3 CBs can't play the way he wants to either. This was also not addressed in the transfer window.
I say all this, and yet feel the transfer window was pretty decent. Bringing in 3 new forwards felt like overkill and neglecting other areas, but at least 2 new forwards were needed.
But given the importance of how the CBs and CMs are in his system, where was the joined up thinking in addressing these areas? And where is the clear thinking in adapting the team set-up to allow for these deficiencies? We are indeed only 4 games in, but it already feels that nothing has been learnt from last season.

And considering he consensually sacked off last season to learn, or so I assumed at the time, that's a really big problem isn't it.
This season it's starting to feel like he's being stubborn for the sake of it. A manager's philosphy shouldn't live or die by a choice of system, it's about prinicples in pattern of play. He has a heavy transition focus, he can do that playing something other than 3421

Of course he didn't. I triple-captained him against us in FPL, thus guaranteeing no goals.

Wasn’t it shown it wasn’t even ETH’s tactics in that City cup final?
I’m sure I remember it was Steve McClaren or someone like that who was responsible unless my memory is dead

As for Amorim - if you’re gonna bring in a brand new playing style that doesn’t suit the squad then at least make common sense signings. We didn’t need at least one of Cunha, Mbuemo and Sesko. We did need a wingback and MOST importantly in a system where the midfield gets overrun we needed a dominant CM.
To play Bruno there of all people is such a dumb decision it surely is a sackable offence. I’m not Mainoo’s biggest fan but surely he’s better there than Bruno?
