England and exciting

For the first time, I look forward to England games. The football is finally exciting. I don’t recall better performances from the national team than these last two games.
Gareth Southgate did a good job to get the team to play for each other, what Tuchel is doing is that plus actually playing good exciting football. These friendlies and qualifiers are against weak teams, no doubt. But even under Southgate and those before him, watching England thrash opponents was not ‘exciting’. A lot of the time it was simply because the English players were so much better, and anytime they came against a top 10 nation, deficiencies showed up.
Would England have won at least one of the tournaments if someone like Tuchel was in charge in the Southgate era? We’ll never know but we can make a good guess.
No doubt England go into next summer as one of the favorites, and tournament football has some element of luck in there. But for the first time, I’m confident against any nation England face.

Of course, the nation and the media are used to overhyping the team over the decades but let’s be honest, a lot of it was more out of hope and desperation than reality. The ‘Golden Generation’ was a real let down. I’m not sure what name has been given to this generation, but Southgate already far exceeded their performances with lesser players than Tuchel prefers.
