Lineker

Would he make a team in the PL if he was playing now. For that matter the same could be said of other "great" strikers.

The reason being, he was known as getting on the end of crosses and putting them in the back of the net. There was not a great deal more to his play other than holding the ball up a bit. Modern strikers have ot be good players as well, so I dont think Lineker would play for a top team now and maybe not even in the PL.

And if Im right, should he present MOTD?

Discuss.

P.S. Come on QPR

Think maybe some folk might be underestimating just what a good player Lineker actually was.

Definitely a poacher, but he really did have a great understanding of the game for a striker and was always on the end of something...

He was a "box player", anything in and around the penalty area was going to end up in the back of the net. I remember his goal against West Germany in the 1990 World Cup was a blinding example of how to finish and keep cool.

Great player.

Lineker is one of the VERY few players never to receive either a Yellow or Red card in their career

Your asking if a player that won a world cup golden boot, an english first division golden boot, played in Spain and was a success in Barcelona and was one of the best strikers ever produced would play in the Premier League now.

If that's the case where would Ian Wright be plying his trade considering Lineker was twice the goal poacher Wright could ever be. My guess is League 2.

What a stupid question.

I meant to say one of the best strikers England has ever produced.

The article is about haow football has changed. When I said other great strikers as well that would include the likes of Ian Rush, Alan Smith (the one who played for arsenal and England) and you could include Michael Owen who is no longer considered good enough to start.

I remember Lineker getting his golden boot in Mexico with a great Hatrick against Poland only for us to go out to the hand of god goal so dont give me any of its because hes a spd

Well that's like asking would Maradonna make it as a footballer now because football has changed so much of course he would.

Any top players from past era's would make it now as they would have the benefit of the training, dietary and tactical elements the players get today.

Not at all, Maradona was a great player. Lineker was a great goal scorer. I just dont think there is room in the modern game for someone whose whole game is goal poaching.
