Downing

Liverpool fan in peace, just thought i would get this of my chest, if we sign Downing for £20m im heading for the highest bridge in town, so the owners of Aston Villa please bare this in mind, im preying that you dont sell to us, i cant stand heights.

I quite like that fact that fans of other teams don't rate Downing. It improves our chances of keeping him.

Hahaahha .. Didnt you just pay nearly 20 million for Henderson ??? Some fans are laughable .. Downing would bring you something you havent had in years .... A natural good left side winger whos just had a great season with Villa who will provide great ammunition for Carroll ..

This is a tricky one, keep Downing or one less Scouser in the world ???? Hmmm can't decide.

Downing has not had the best career at Villa but he has potential.

And if Milner was worth £20M odd then maybe Downing could be worth upto that.

To me Downing is worth £12-15M, but sometimes players get sold for silly money.

If Villa sell then i think Bentley is a decent player who never had a chance at Blues and could cost £8M and worth it i recon at his best he is better than Downing as a winger, just Bentley has inconsistancy and a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Besides if you sign Eck i dont know if attacking flair players would come to Villa as they will know McLeish just dont know how to use them and wont play them often.

He is more likely to re-sign Reo Coker and Gardner

yeah big Eck has never signed flair players before.... Check your facts. Claudia Caniggia and Russel Latapy were not too bad if i remember - and could think of many more in his previous teams.

Check my facts??????

Hleb, Bentley are flair players Beausejour is borderline flair attacking player was a star at the World Cup but not given chances at Blues.

Then there was Sinclair who in Championship got like a hand full of sub games, but showed when given games and used by a none negative side he can do the business in the Championship by doing well with Swansea and winning the play offs for them with his hatrick.

We have had others aswell.

My point being McLeish prefers players who can attack but have a defencive side to their game hence he likes Gardner, and Barry would be a ideal signing for him.

He would take a Barry over a Young, a Scholes over a Nani and say a Giggs over a Ronaldo.

You kind of get the picture, if a player does not offer much in defending or they do not track back enough they will get dropped by McLeish.

He will mold your side around guile and grit and he would do a better Job at that than any of your Managers in recent memory!

His transfer targets are usually players who fit that mold of hard working, he will target the odd flair player like N'Zogbia's and Babels but why because it would not long before he would drop them.

If you have a quality Striker who can do a good job even if isolated a lot, and a good defence. Then provided you have/get wingers who will sacrefice a bit of their flair in return for helping out defending more then McLeish could work for you.

The problem is that some of your attacking players would be expected to be more cautious on attack and expected to spend as much time in your own 3rd than the final 3rd.

Should they throw a huff and a puff over that then they would be dropped.

Oh and i would not rule out a move for players like Barton as he likes players with fight in them.
