With Smalling, even when he was poor for Fulham, you could still see he had great composure on the ball and was big and strong in the air

Jones from the limited times Iv seen him, has everything plus more to POTENTIALLY be a great defender

With henderson, when we were linked to him, I was dreading it would come true, thankfully, Liverpool have got him and paid £20mil! I dont see what he excels at

Passing average, technically very english i.e. laboured, defnesively poor, no scoring record etc.

Sorry to disappoint some fans, but the only promising players in this England team are United players, particularly Smalling and Jones. Henderson was awful in every aspect, his movement (I mean lack of) his predictible passes...

I'm guessing you didn't see Bertrand, Walker and Fielding play? All had good games. Smalling and Jones aren't the only players who play for the U21s, unlike the media would have you believe. They both made many mistakes today and Jones gifted Spain a goal the other day. Not saying they're not talented players - they are - but there are players just as good as them, and people hype these two up just because they play for united.

Ask Sunderland fans and the majority will say he is not good enough...average player at best..gets up and down well but he has nothing special...Smalling outshined Jones in the last game but i agree with the other poster, his class is shining through..iv seen it all season tho..Smalling and Jones will be formidable in a few years times..vidic and Rio hold a line better than any and how lucky we are that these 2 will be learning form the worlds 2 best Centre halves

If Jones impresses in pre season I can see Sir Alex starting him in plenty of Premiership matches. Rio and Vidic have been awesome togteher but if he feels Rios best days are behind ghim and he is a liability due to his injuries, then as we all know with Fergie, there'll be know sentamentality. Also, with his Blacburn experience I see Jones as our 3rd choice centre back. Not 4th or 5th behind Smalling and Evans as some consider him.
